We stayed at The Clarence our first night in Ireland. My family of 4 arrived very early in the morning from the U.S. and even though we were there way before check-in time, the staff was very accommodating, offering tea and juice for the kids, and basically letting us camp out until our room was ready.

I don't know if it was worth the money to just stay there for one night, but our room would have been perfect for a longer stay - we had a bedroom and then a separate living room with a pullout couch for the kids. Plus, a view of the River Liffey. I saw other reviews said that it was noisy, but we didn't hear anything at night.

There's nothing flashy or modern about this hotel, but it has classic elegance. And it's a great homebase if you want to explore Dublin on foot.

Room Tip: We stayed on the Liffey side and it was quiet and beautiful.

The Clarence Hotel is right in Temple Bar, so very convenient to so much .. including the Hop on Hop Off bus system. The hotel rooms were very nice .. good beds. Must say that the drinkers and party people created noise most of the night, but we were so tired we slept just fine. Staff is top notch.

Thanks for your recent stay with us Jon, and for your review. It's good to know that you enjoyed your stay and that hustle and bustle of Temple Bar and it's nightlife didn't impact on your sleep. Thanks also for your compliment on the staff here which I have passed on to them.

Was very much looking foward to staying here but sadly didn't live up to expectations!
Struggled checking in. Room was ok. Nothing special needs updating. Very noicy from the night club next door! Air con was broken so it was either freezing or too warm.
But! Have to say the young man who brings you're bags up is delightful .

Thanks for taking the time to review The Clarence after your stay with us. It's disappointing to read of the less favourable parts of your stay, and where it is an option available to us, we will work on improving these. It's nice to know that despite this you found a positive in the courteousness of the concierge and I have passed this compliment on to that department.

Drank in the bar with a group of 15 or so. Ordered two drinks which they didn't have so settled on a wine. At 10eu a cocktail you'd expect more than a glass of ice. Was in great company and enjoying the night until a member of staff appeared threatening to throw a member of the group out if she didn't quieten down. He approached this girl in front of the whole bar and spoke to her in the most hostile manner. It is understandable that he wanted the noise reduced but to go about this in the most rude and unprofessional way is shocking. The girl in question was extremely upset and preceded to another table where her 3 friends sat. Towards the end of the night the same member of staff returned and rudely told them to leave with absolute no reason.

Great location, great room, great staff, great music in the basement - three girls singing Irish Motown to die for, ... and a great restaurant in the building to boot. And of course the famous Bar serving great Irish beverages - the blacker the beer the better! Had a great time. After a week of business travel this was a real treat. Not as posh as the US chain but makes up for it with character, and friendly staff. i will be back.

Room Tip: Rooms on the river are noisier but what a great view.

Michael, thanks for your review having stayed with us here at The Clarence in July. It's a pleasure to read how much you enjoyed your stay and that you found our team to be a friendly bunch. This is something we strive for so it's nice to see it's noticed. Hopefully after your next business trip, or indeed a trip just for leisure you'll choose The Clarence again.

I moved to Dublin just before Christmas and as a present my sister bought me a Voucher for the Clarence to enjoy an afternoon tea

This unfortunately is where all my problems started. I booked the afternoon tea to be subsequently told that the restaurant is not owned by the Clarence and the voucher can only be used for accommodation or the bar. I queried why the voucher was sent to me with Afternoon tea on the letter to be told this was a mistake and was sent in error

So we left and decided to organise an evening with a few friends to use up the voucher as there was no point in using voucher for the accommodation as we live 10mims away

Evening was booked for 4 of us and a couple of weeks later we arrived to have a few drinks. We told the bar staff that we had a voucher and if we could use to pay for drinks and he said only if we used all of the voucher as he could not give us any credit back, so a case of use all the voucher or lose it! We asked if we can speak to the manager to verify this to be told there was not manager on duty (it was Friday afternoon around 4pm). So afraid we could not use the voucher up we left and went to another bar

I rang up the hotel the next day and was told this was not correct, we can use voucher and get credit back and there was a duty manager on. They were very apologetic and manager gave me his name if there were any problems

So another night was planned and finally we got to use the voucher and the 3rd time of asking. We went on a Sunday afternoon and to be honest the atmosphere was poor. The decor in the bar looked very dated and also the service was poor. We asked for Hendricks Gin afternoon tea, which is normally served in a lovely tea pot and amazing tea cups. It was served to us in a broken tea pot and coffee cups you get at a wedding party.

Overall a very poor experience. I would not buy someone a voucher for the Clarence as it is hard to use and also would recommend other hotels and bars to go for a nice drink as there are a lot better in Dublin

It's a great pity to read that you experienced do many negatives in your dealings with The Clarence. It seems the initial miscommunication caused all manner of things to go wrong and for that I wholeheartedly apologise. Staff have been given more direction and coaching so that the situation you experienced does not arise again. I fully understand that you now have a tarnished opinion of the hotel but would welcome the opportunity to change this and hope that you choose to visit us again in the future.

I had some problems during the booking process with The Clarence, so much so that I had to complain to the General Manager, so I was slightly apprehensive about staying there. However, the staff made up for the problems during the stay and were so helpful. I celebrated my 21st birthday here with my friends, and really did have a fantastic time. We stayed in a River View Suite and had a lovely view over the Liffey. Great location for Temple Bar. I would definitely stay here again.
