We stayed here for 2 nights in August 2014, in a deluxe balcony room, 412. The entrance / foyer area is decorated in oak panels and could look a little austere to some visitors although we liked it a lot. On entering the hotel, we were greeted in a very friendly and welcoming way though sadly the room wasn't ready, so we dropped bags and headed into town for breakfast. (Check out Bewleys, it's a fine breakfast spot). When we managed to check in at 14:00, we found the room was situated to the rear of the property, overlooking the rooftops of temple bar. Not a traditionally "good view", but it had lots of interest and we thought it was cool. Whilst not the biggest room we've ever stayed in, it was well furnished and nicely maintained. The bathroom was a good size, and in good order, so nothing to moan about here.
The main room, had tea and coffee making, smallish TV, minibar, and a couple of tub seats with a table. There was plenty of hanging space in the wardrobes. The bed was Queen size and very comfortable. Again, nothing to complain about.
As for the services at the hotel, we found it a bit of a mixed bag. We popped down for coffee on the first morning and it took a while to get served. The coffee itself was nice but the waitress could do to smile a little and seemed surprised when we complimented her on the coffee!
Reception staff is a tale of 2 halves. One gentleman, was really on the ball, eager to help, and keen to sort out anything you might wish for - exactly what you need when you're in a new city. The other struggled to understand what we were asking, and couldn't offer much in the way of advice with some pretty straightforward questions.
The hotel, as has been mentioned is on the banks of the Liffey. It's also about 15 minutes walk from most places in the very middle of town. So brewery / distillery / shopping / culture is all very close to hand. The impressive nightlife of Temple Bar starts about 150m from the back door. There are clubs and bars practically joined to the hotel in the basements below. With doors and windows closed, we didn't find noise to be a problem in our room, but we were on a high floor. And just be aware that the nightlife goes on till way after 2am.
So why only 4 stars? Well we tried to get into Cleavers (The hotel restaurant) a bit late in the day, but still during posted opening hrs. Staff tell us we're too late and the chef had turned the stove off. So we ask the same staff, can they recommend a place? Nope, they don't eat out round here. OK, so anywhere to avoid? Same answer. Try the main desk, they tell us. Go to main desk. Same questions, same answers from staff. This is at just before 10:30pm on a Friday night.
The saving grace on this is that we went back to the room, ordered room service. The Chowder and Tandoori Wraps were outstanding. Service was pretty quick too.

Thanks for your comprehensive review following your recent stay. I certainly seems like you had a mixed experience staying here at The Clarence, but it's great to read of the positives. Where you experienced anything less than the standard we have been able to pride ourselves on goes to show us that there is always room for improvement and thanks to your specifics it makes that a task we can undertake in those areas straight away. Your kind words about the food, speed of service, and friendly staff have been passed on to the relevant departments as it's always nice to hear such things. Hopefully, if you come back to The Clarence, you will experience all positives.

We stayed at the Clarence for one night in Dublin, wish we could have stayed longer! We were upgraded to a beautiful suite overlooking the River Liffey. The rooms were clean and beautifully furnished with a separate living room, including a flat screen TV, mini bar and computer station. The hotel is situated in the heart of Dublin within walking distance to many, many restaurants, shops, pubs and attractions. The staff was extremely helpful. Pablo provided us with a map and suggestions for a waling tour to see as much as we could in one day. He also printed our our boarding passes for the next morning's flight, and even recharged my phone for me. The Octogon bar was beautiful but surprisingly quiet. The breakfast was very good, a full Irish breakfast and a buffet with fruits, breads, and meat. It was not complimentary though and there are many restaurants near the hotel that offer breakfast for less. The Clarence was a real treat for us, a little pricy but for one night in your life in Dublin well worth it!

Room Tip: Rooms overlooking the river are lovely but you will get some noise from the busy sreet.

Thanks for choosing The Clarence for your brief stopover in Dublin in July. It's great to know you enjoyed the service of our staff, and in particular Pablo. He certainly is an asset to us here. Your kind words about the hotel itself, from the bedrooms to the bar & restaurant have been poassed on to those who work in these areas every day. We hope you had a pleasant trip home to Boston and that if you're ever back in Dublin you'll return to The Clarence.

I stayed here for two nights in August, the hotel is lovely and is situated right on the river Liffey, it is in the center of all of the shops, attractions and night life. The hotel itself is lovely, the main entrance and lobby is beautiful and the rooms are very spacious. The staff are very helpful and provided us with lots of information, they also kept our bags for us on Sunday as we had a very late departure flight. They replenished our tea/coffee and provided us with fresh towels every day. The only down side with the room is the temperature it is very hot, although the hotel did provide us with a fan which helped reduce the heat. The view from the back of the hotel isn't great and there is a lot of noise from the Temple Bar area. However this was to be expected on a Friday/Saturday night in Dublin! The hotel is in easy reach of all of the local attractions and is around 40mins from the airport. Overall I had a brilliant stay in The Clarence and would highly recommend it for anyone looking for a lovely stay in Dublin.

Room Tip: Rooms at the front of the building have a lovely view of the River Liffey.

Stayed on a business trip, good hotel, room a great size, bed really comfortable, extras in room good - just would have liked a better quality of coffee/tea. Good quality hotel with no cheap gimmicks. Room service food excellent, staff lovely and very helpful. Will visit again. Worth a visit. Will visit again.

Outstanding customer service! Our original room had a strange noise outside - hard to identify the source. We called the desk and the clerk immediately came to the room to investigate. He agreed it was disturbing and would see what he could do for us. Within 10 minutes he moved us to a beautiful suite with a fabulous terrace.

The rooms are clean, comfortable with interesting decor. Cant beat the location. I highly recommend a suite, the views are amazing. What a great place to experience Dublin.

Room Tip: Splurge for a room with a view.

Bono and The Edge and their team of investors have restored this classic hotel lovingly and authentically. Could not imagine a better location within the city of Dublin - as central as possible and can walk to almost everyplace you would want to visit. For Dublin I think this is one of the best hotel offerings, especially for the "pleasure" traveler who prefers the smaller boutique hotel to the mega luxury business type hotel. We stayed at The Clarence our first night in Ireland. My family of 4 arrived very early in the morning from the U.S. and even though we were there way before check-in time, the staff was very accommodating, offering tea and juice for the kids, and basically letting us camp out until our room was ready.

I don't know if it was worth the money to just stay there for one night, but our room would have been perfect for a longer stay - we had a bedroom and then a separate living room with a pullout couch for the kids. Plus, a view of the River Liffey. I saw other reviews said that it was noisy, but we didn't hear anything at night.

There's nothing flashy or modern about this hotel, but it has classic elegance. And it's a great homebase if you want to explore Dublin on foot.

Room Tip: We stayed on the Liffey side and it was quiet and beautiful.

Please do consider this before booking. Within the hotel complex there are many drinking and dining experiences, from the chilled out bliss of The Study to the super stylish Octagon Bar, the perfect spot for an afternoon cocktail or a laid back nightcap. We also have Michelin star chef Oliver Dunne's Cleaver East restaurant within our walls and we are very proud that Oliver and his team provide all catering at the hotel, so whether it's a late night bite in your room or a Full Irish breakfast the next morning, you know your food will be of the highest standard, made from the freshest produce, closely cared for by Michelin starred hands. In the bowels of our building you will find the luxurious cocktail and food bar The Liquor Rooms, home to Dublin's arts set and the first ROI bar ever to be nominated in the prestigious Tales of the Cocktail Spirited Awards.
