This hostel was booked initially for our first night in Ireland before we set off on a trip around the country. We had read many reviews for different hostels and decided in the end to go with Avalon House. It was the right decision! everything about this hostel made the start of an awesome holiday in Ireland seem like a dream.

The staff were always friendly and happy to help with anything we needed.. The Kitchen was a great size and always very clean. We booked a quad room on the first night and ended up in their alone which was a bonus. The ensuite was good but has those timed showers for water conservation (which i liked) but they were a little too quick to turn off meaning you had to hold it on for most of the shower.

Other great things i found were the free WiFi and free breakfast which got the day off to a great start. Needless to say we booked in again for our last night in Dublin before returning home.

We spent a week in this place and I must say that our room, which was a double room, was TOO SMALL. we could barely find some room for our lugage.

On top of that, the milk at the cafe was disgusting and the elevator didn't work the first four days.

Nevertherless I must say that the people at the reception were very nice to us and they would help us out with anything. The location of the hostel was also great.

Easy to get bus from the airport (ask the driver to tell you where the stop is- we did!) and fairly inexpensive. We stayed in 12 bed dorm and it was fine, roomates were all good fun. The room was kind of on 2 levels with a mezzanine floor with a winding staircase going up! this makes it feel quite private and everyone has their space. Breakfast usual bog standard continental, nothing special, tho the café is nice and open to the public during the day. Staff very helpful and recommended us somewhere to go on a night out as we were there for new years. We loved the kitchen! very funky, and we loved all the messages left by previous travellers on the wall, also was v big so again everyone had space. quite close to main centre. Tho i have to say we saw mice in the Lounge and luggage room downstairs...! there 2 v lovely restaurants along the same street as avalon, one is a vegetarian doing unusual yummy dishes and the other is good for a big Irish breakfast! Temple bar is expensive!

Avalon house was not exactly what we expected. We were told that we'd be in a 14 bed dorm, which turned out to be more like a 26 bed, with peoples stuff thrown everywhere. It was not clean and certainly not accomodating to our needs seeing as how the four of us girls couldn't even change without men seeing us. The bathrooms were alright, and the free breakfast in the morning did help. We were overall not impressed. No alcohol is permitted anywhere on the premises therefore most people staying there are to study (noise isn't allowed). The location however, was really great and is close to an awesome bar called The Hairy Lemon. Also featured in the hostel is an amazing cafe called the Bald Barista. Best coffee in Ireland. We will not stay there again when we return to Ireland

Thanks for your feedback. Our 26 bed dorm cost 14 euro and as we do not have a 14 bed dorm in the hostel I believe you must have misheard the information when you booked. This dorm is used mostly by long term guests and is the cheapest room in the hostel for long term guests. Due to the number of guests in the room and the fact that they are not tidy themselves this may make the room look a bit messy but we keep the room clean hoovering, cleaning and changing beds daily. We have a large variety of other rooms which can be booked for even cheaper online such as 12 bed dorms, 6 bed dorms and 4 bed dorms which you would probably prefer if you come back. I am sorry you didn't like the large dorm but please rest assured that there is more to Avalon than just this room.
