Owner description: This bleak old jail was notorious in the 19th century for its harsh treatment of prisoners.

Very interesting and good day out, knowledgeable guide gives a tour of the jail ,if you are interested in Irish history this the tour for you. A tip if you are visiting, get there early and take your time in the museum , a fascinating museum that they use as a opportunity to pass time while waiting for your tour but it is much more than this and they should advertise it as so. Could have spent several hours in there.Great price of 6 euros per adult, the guy on the front desk recommended we buy a family ticket so 4 of us got in for 14 euros !!! Well worth the hour q to buy tickets. One thing I would say why not have 2 qs one for those visiting now and one for prebooked tours. The family in front of us waited over an hour to book on a tour for much later in the afternoon, you have no choice but to all q together.

Educational, in a touchy feely kinda way. Kids entertained themselves with the hidden camera feeds in the museum. I would recommend going early to pick up tickets - we had to wait, ugh. (Especially since it was raining.) It would be easier on kids if you did the tour BEFORE the museum, in my opinion.

Gaols should not be happy places but this one is informative, interesting, oozing with historical relevance and of course a tad sad.The cells and interior are well preserved and yard where men were executed by firing squad very moving. The guided tours are excellent and after the gaol you can,if let out early for good behaviour adjourn over the road to the Hilton Hotel for a comforting libation and wholesome sandwich. We go to the goal on an annual pilgrimage every year to soak up the poignant history. A wondrous place.

Great historical visit. I learned more about Irish history, very interesting. Easy bus trip from city center or cab ride.
