But what really mad our stay lovely was the girl who served us breakfast, she was really lovely friendly and could not do enough to help us.Bernie represents the friendly Irsh manner in the most positive manner. We arrived following a punishing 36 hrs of travel from Australia to a warm friendly greeting from Danielle at reception. We had arrived before check-in time and while waiting for a room to be ready were escorted into the lovely traditional bar area. We were welcomed by Sandra who took care of us over the next couple of days both in the bar and at breakfast and even arranged for rice milk to be brought in for my breakfast the following day. The bar lounge offers a good menu and we opted for the homemade leek & potato soup with soda bread - delicious, followed by made to order sandwiches and of course a Guinness helped banish some of the travel tiredness. That and the very warm welcome. Every time we returned to the hotel Danielle or one of the ladies on reception welcomed us back with a smile and acknowledgement, as did the young man in the bar. I'm only sorry I don't have all their names as they all need a thank you.

Forget the 3 star rating for this hotel. Location they say is everything, and this hotel is ideally situated to walk to most of the major attractions and city centre. For anything else that's a bit beyond walking distance, buy a ticket for the hop on hop off bus from Danielle at the reception desk and you'll receive a discount on the ticket price (thanks for suggesting it Sandra). The bus takes you to all the major tourist destinations including the Guinness brewery tour, Dublinia Viking history which is well worth a visit and very we'll put together exhibition and next door to 1000 yr old Christ Church Cathedral. The bus stops directly opposite the hotel on the Merrion St Gardens corner. Don't forget to buy a bottle of water before you go - 1 euro from reception.

I'm writing this whilst relaxing in our twin room on a very comfortable bed. Don't expect hotel chain style decor - if you do then you'll be disappointed and should probably book elsewhere if that's the type of hotel you prefer. Decor is traditional with dark timber furniture and maroon draped curtains. The room size for Europe is good with plenty of room for suitcases and large double door mirrored built-in robes (closet space) with lots of hanging space and includes a trouser press. The bathroom has shower over the bath in this room, with plenty of hot water with great water pressure. Marble floor and hand basin surrounds are a nice touch. Hair dryer is located in the dressing table drawer. Toiletries are basic but adequate, the towels are white and fluffy and the bed linen crisp and white. Our room has been very well serviced each day and the hotel is extremely clean throughout.
The walls are thick and we have experienced a quiet stay and have not heard any sounds from neighbouring rooms. This area of Dublin, only a 5 minute walk to all major galleries and shopping, is away from the noisy pub area of Temple Bar but close enough to enjoy it and safe enough to walk home afterwards.

This morning we received a lovely greeting from Bernie when we arrived for breakfast and Natalie and Barbara took good care of us again. We were offered tea and coffee on arrival into the lovely sunny breakfast lounge area. Try for a window seat so you can watch the world go by. There is the option of continental styled buffet or table service hot food to order, delivered with a smile by this fabulous team.

If location is the criteria for choosing a hotel then you can't go wrong. Add to this the very warm, genuine desire to care for their guest's needs then this hotel should have a 5 star rating based on the professionalism of the team at O'Callaghan's Mont Clare. Thank you for a wonderful welcome to Dublin. We'll be sorry to leave you tomorrow!

Just returned from a trip to Ireland that ended on a very positive note in the Mont Clare hotel near Merion Square. Super location allows you to walk to Trinity College and all the great Dublin sites Grafton St, Temple Bar, etc) and end your evening with a walk around Merion Square and photo op w/ Oscar Wilde's lounging statue in the park. Gary and Vincent (manager and asst) were terrific and very helpful. Rooms were small but comfortable and bathrooms updated with marble. Walking into the breakfast room each morning was a real treat! Three bay windows, nearly floor to ceiling, gave you wonderful morning light and a perfect view of all the government workers walking to work a block or two away. Truly delightful!

I was really glad they had my room ready when I arrived from my overnight flight. The hotel is in a great location and was close to a Hop On Hop Off stop. Staff were very helpful with my questions about getting around the city and booking a taxi for the next morning.

We stayed at the Mont Clare for one night on the way to the Isle of Man for the TT motorcycle races. We stayed an additional two nights after the races before heading home. The staff were professional, courtesy, and extremely helpful with all aspects of our visits including providing early check-in times twice to accommodate our overseas flights. The location was perfect for getting around and seeing Dublin. The hotel was charming and we felt like we were in Dublin and not just another hotel in any large city. The food in the pub was also delicious as well as the drinks!

The location was wonderful-most staff were very friendly and accommodating-We had some issues with housekeeping the first night-we were promised that mattress pads would be put on our beds before we returned that evening-when we returned it wasn't done-the reason given was some rooms have them-some don't -we insisted they were eventually brought to us but it was late-The breakfast were good. Our checkout was rushed-we are still checking to make sure we were charged what we were quoted.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review on tripadvisor, I am sorry that this is the first we are hearing of your disappointment. We genuinely like to hear from our guests whilst they are with us so that we have an opportunity to rectify any issues or at least understand what the problems are. I am sorry we did not have this opportunity during your visit with us. I would like to apologies for this disruption to you stay and I have spoken to the housekeeping department and front office department regarding the issue you raise as these are not the standard levels of service we provide at the Mont Clare Hotel. I do hope that we will have an opportunity to service your hotel requirements again and with that in mind I look forward to welcoming you back to our hotel in the not too distant future.
