“Warm,clean & cosy!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 March 2013

Really happy with our stay here! Stayed here for one night for a concert. Staff were very nice, they were able to give us our room early to accomodate our early arrival and allowed us to leave our bags there until we left the next day! The rooms are small but very clean, warm and the bed was very comfortable. Only 10 minute walk from Heuston station and the Luas line which brings you right into town. Breakfast was really good too. Only downside was the early check out and the slight smell of smoke in our non-smoking room.

My wife and I stayed here for 2 nights (17th and 18th Nov) as it's right next to Phoenix park and my wife was running the marathon organised to replace the cancelled one in New York. The room, 330, was spacious, warm and beautifully decorated. The real plus point was the staff. They were friendly, polite and helpful. We asked the young man on reception to call us a cab to take us to the race start but he went one better and drove us in his own car!! You don't get that level of service much these days. A lovely hotel, great location and super staff, a big thank you to everyone at The Phoenix

Booked this hotel as the pictures made the rooms look nice, and due to the recent refurbishment- however the room we received was stuck in the depths of the hotel, with no card reader, and no curtains on some of the windows. There was an overall lack of lighting in the room, by contrast, at night. The bathroom reeked of cigarettes, and was shabby, and the room itself was very unloved, with stains and rips on the bedclothes. Perhaps the other rooms that they have done-up are nicer, but they did not see fit to grant us one of those- I therefore find the pictures on their website to be very misleading. It is also an annoyance that you must wake a member of staff to get in at night.

We spent three days at the Phoenix Park Hotel last week and had a wonderful time there. The location is great, with access to tours, the tram, and other points of interest. Moreover, the rooms were quiet, clean, and comfortable.

What really makes the hotel an excellent place to stay is the staff. Liam, Mary, James, and the others provided great service, friendly smiles, and good food.

I will stay at the Phoenix Par

It's my first time in Ireland so i was kind of shy, but people here are so friendly that right now i could stay here for another week if it was possible. Also i had to stay here for another night with no previous reservation and the guy at the reception desk worked hard to find me another room , and so he did, also he looked for my bagagge while i took s 2hour walk around Dublin. I guess that i haven't been treated like this ever, not even in my own country. Also i had the best breakfast of my life. A simple Thanks is just not enough. I'm gonna be back soon and i won't have to look for another place. I'm loving it.

I booked this hotel not knowing very much about it. When I read some of the reviews on here I thought it was going to be terrible, but it was all Ireland final wkend and too late to try and book something else. The hotel was only a couple of minutes away from the train station, our room was clean and bigger than expected, the lady on reception was brilliant (there should be one of her in every house), breakfast was great also. I paid €150 for two people and overall our stay was great, far better than expected.

Everyone who rates this place higher than 2 "stars" must have stayed in a room with a modern card-lock entry, a phone, a clock, liquid soap, hotel shampoos, a clean shower/shower door, and no leftover construction equipment or supplies. We recently stayed at the Phoenix Park Hotel, using 4 rooms for 8 people.

Through Expedia we had booked a great rate (much more fair for the "value" the hotel actually provided) however 2 weeks before the trip the hotel contacted us to say the reservation was cancelled, that they were refunding our money, and that we could "re-book" at a rate more than twice what had previously been agreed to/paid for. Legal issues…we're pursuing, but 2 weeks before a trip when nearly all the other hotels in Dublin are booked we did what was needed to have a place to sleep.

I've never been to a hotel before where the night desk worker sleeps … so that if you want to get INTO (or OUT OF) the hotel you have to wake them up so they'll use the key to unlock the door (NO, room keys/electronic cards do not open the outside door).

On checking in (at 6am after our flight to Ireland) we had to wake up the worker just to be let in, then navigate to our room through a seemingly endless maze of small hallways, twists and turns, and multiple "fire doors".
In our room we enjoyed clean sheets and a comforter however the water was dangerously hot. The words "my skin is blistering" left my mouth on more than one occasion. on the 3rd (and thankfully final) night of our stay the water temperature finally normalized. By normal I mean our friends in the room below had all the hot water and we had none. There was no balance. The hotel owner spoke positively about the expensive water system just installed but clearly they still have issues to work out. Our room had 3 great big windows however only 2 curtains. This made mornings a little difficult although can you really complain about bright sunny days in Ireland? Yes, at 5am you can. The shower was so small that even if a housekeeper got into the shower they would need to close the door to be able to clean it. There still may have not been enough room to get that motion out of their arms. Regardless we don't think the inside of the shower - especially the door - had ever been cleaned. there were also venetian blinds leaning in the cubbyhole they called a closet - not useful, no way to hang them up, just leftover from when the installed the 2 curtains (remember there are 3 windows…)

Our friends, staying in the room below, lost their door knob just by closing the door the first time and had to awaken the desk worker (again) to fix it. Thankfully he was then awake when they realized there was no comforter or other spread on the bed. They got the new one and there was just a single cigarette burn. When they tried to shower the front desk man was banging on their door because the water was dripping rapidly through the ceiling to the computer/registration desk below. Later that day someone put new caulk in their shower but still didn't fix their lack of hot (or even tepid) water, or clean up his construction debris.

Neither of our rooms had anything more than a generic soap bar; no phone; no clock; and no hooks/rods to hang wet towels for drying. We weren't even sure the lock worked. THe other 2 rooms our party was using had electronic card entry systems, clearly had been recently refurbished, and came with the things you expect from a hotel: soaps/shampoos/conditioners/hair dryers/towel racks/clocks/phones.

There is a HUGE difference depending on the room you stay in however there wasn't any difference in (way overpriced) room rates. Breakfast is also NOT included.

After-hour's help seemed uninterested in serving drinks (but was ok serving if we took them to our rooms … just a depressing thought). Housekeeping staff (or someone else?) took a pint glass i had purchased as a souvenir from a different shop. When asking about it's whereabouts the response received was "they must have thought it was from the bar". I came home without the glass.

Food - a simple look at the hotel was enough to know we didn't want anything todo with the food. Some of our group braved it one morning and learned their lesson. Scrambled eggs should not look like tapioca pudding. Black coffee should never cost 7 euros each! The rest of us went to the train station and got our pastry/coffee there and were quite satisfied.

The one saving grace for the Phoenix Park Hotel is its location. While not close to City Center Dublin (its a 45-60 minute walk) there are plenty of busses and the Heuston (train) Station a very short walk the Luas tram is available every few minutes.

will never stay there again.

Room Tip: get a new room with the electronic-card key … you'll have moderately more success then the older...

very sorry for your extreamly bad stay with us,we no longer use that room as an over flow room and its now out of commision,im the manager and I was unaware you had a bad expeirence as you never notified the front desk or me,that is not an excuse but we at the hotel need feed back inorder to make your stay more enjoyable and I understand it inexcusable the problems you incountered.but to say our coffee is 7/8 euro is completely false a coffee in our restaurant/cafe is 2euro and to say we are 45 minutes to sixty mintutes from the city centre is not the case,we are 5 minutes from the centre via the tram, and 25 minutes walk from the heart of the city.Thank you for your comment and let me asure you the hotel is actively improving these problems.
