“Disappointing”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 13 June 2014

We paid approx 180 euros to stay overnight in a triple room (3rd floor) with breakfast. The staff, without exception, were wonderful: attentive, friendly, helpful. The room however, was nowhere near worth the rate charged. The walls were paper thin, to the extent that the couple next door who were talking (loudly, but still just talking) woke me up 3 times during the night and the noise from the generator outside the window went on from the early hours into the evening. There was a cable hanging over the window and the 'view' was ..... well, metal pipes and generators. The room was clean but very shabby. The wallpaper was scuffed, torn and grubby. There was a frayed, ugly TV wire-covering in dire need of replacing, a cracked socket in the bathroom and the double-bed creaked when you sat on it as if it was about to give way any second. Overall, feel of the room was 'tired' and 'worn out'. Breakfast was nothing to shout about (although again, the staff were brilliant). Little choice for the continental breakfast and stale pastries ... and no hash browns or other potato products on the cooked breakfast. It would be so easy to smarten the place up a bit - clean the mucky 'phone in the lift for a start? Overall, not worth the money and not worthy of the staff employed there. Went for my birthday, hugely disappointing experience, won't return.

Dear Gemmaj_30,

Thank you for taking the time to post this review following your stay with us recently. It is disappointing to read that you were less than satisfied with your stay.
We have taken on board your comments regarding the room you stayed in and we have rectified the issues and have replaced the phone in the lift.
As a city centre hotel it is not possible to have a view from all the rooms. Our central location and service provided by a genuinely warm and attentive staff does compensate for a diminished view.

I hope that you would give us the opportunity to restore your faith in Buswells Hotel. You might contact me personally in advance so that I may afford you my personal attention.

Kind regards,
Paul Gallagher,
General Manager.

This hotel is very well kept. We loved sitting at the lobby. It's very cozy and the staff are super friendly. It is walking distance to all the amenities, including the laundry mat. There is no air conditioning, but who needs it when it is mild and cool outside. The Wifi internet works well. I'd stay again.

Room Tip: There is a very small elevator, so if you have a lot of luggage, choose the ground floor.

If you like the type of hotel where you can play badminton in your bathroom, then this isn't for you. If you like a bit of Georgian charm, with a real old Dublin feel, then give it a go. It's a really handy place and has nearby parking. The bar is a warm and friendly place and the dining room is lovely. We had a table looking out at the National Museum on Kildare Street and is was very pleasant. Breakfast is cooked to order, rather than congealing in a buffet and was also very good. I'd definitely stay here again.

An old hotel that could do with some serious upgrading. The room at the head of the stairs is fine for a single but very cramped for a couple. If we had had more than two carry-ons, we would have been in more trouble. The safe at the bottom of the open, solitary wardrobe requires you to get down on your hands and knees to operate it. On top of it us the coffee/tea supplies, under your hanging clothes. The hot water took literal minutes to reach the room.
On the plus side, the breakfast was tasty; the group dinner was good; the bed was comfortable; and the location in downtown Dublin can't be beat.

Very good location, but the hotel is one of the older ones in Dublin. It was originally a large home so the rooms are very different and sometimes difficult to reach. We had to go through the dining room to get to the stairs nearest our room, and go up and then down again. Not so convenient. The room was also small, although the furnishings were nice and the bathroom was modern. The staff were very nice and helpful. The breakfast was quite good. And the restaurant in the hotel also serves good bar food. Reasonable value for what we paid.

Room Tip: Don't get Room 400! You need a GPS to find it and lots of stairs.

Dear MessaM,

Thank you for taking the time to your review on TripAdvisor. It is great to read that you found our location just right for you and our staff so helpful.

It is disappointing to read that your room was not as you expected. As an older building and not a purpose built hotel, one of the unique features of Buswells is that all rooms are different.
I would hope that should you return for another stay, we will ensure you have a more accessible room.

Kind regards,
Paul Gallagher,
General Manager.

I really enjoyed Buswells. I loved the décor and atmosphere of place. The staff were all very nice and helpful. The rooms were clean and although the triple bedroom was snug, it was still comfortable. The location was perfect--it was walking distance to so many things and close to many buses. I would stay there again.

Beautiful hotel with amazing location for exploring Dublin. With Mary and Vicki at the front desk and Aiden in the bar, we received excellent information about all things Irish. Comfortable, updated and quiet - it exceeded our expectations. Free WiFi, too. This lovely hotel has it all!
