I stayed at the Buswells Hotel for four nights - both for business and pleasure. The location of the hotel is great, the ambience is very good, the rooms clean with everything you need (apart from duvets...) and the price very reasonable.
However, the rooms are of varying size - mostly quite small. When we booked as a group, they actually confirmed that we would get small double rooms. These rooms were ok-ish for one person, but I have no idea how two people could fit in one of these so-called "small double rooms". Staying for serveral nights, I noticed that the room was seldom cleaned before 3 pm - which I think is a bit late.
Buswells is not a hotel for those who prefer modern minimalism. However, I found it to have a quaint charm and friendly atmosphere that made it a very nice experience. The breakfast menu is limited, but very nice. The hotel bar is ok for a quiet drink - the clientele is middle-age and upwards.
My room was towards the street and that is not to be recommended. The traffic was not a problem, but there was a man sleeping on a door step across the street. Every morning at about 6 am he woke up and started yelling, swearing and screaming. This went on for 30-60 minutes EVERY morning. Apparently, the guy is a permanent fixture, so my recommendation is to specify a room away from the street.
We had booked a meeting room, the Press Room, for a seminar. The room was not brilliant. People stood just under the window and smoked, which made the room smell. There was no equipment in the room and the wifi did not work. The absolute low point when it came to conference facilities was the print-out service. I asked for a printer and was sent down several stairs to a room with a crummy printer and pc. Here, you had to insert coins, log in and print. There was no-one there to assist you, and when I called reception because it didn't work, they suggested I could go to an internet cafe instead....!!!! That is not on if you claim to offer conference facilities.
My conclusion: Great hotel if you don't suffer from claustrophobia and are not planning to use the conference facilities.
