“Excellent Hotel”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 August 2014

We have just returned from a 3 night stay there at the Morgan, As soon as we arrived we were told that we'd been upgraded to a suite and that was fabulous, a massive double bed, very very comfortable and the best hotel bathroom shower I've been in,
There was noise, but we made sure we'd seen all we wanted to see during the day so once we returned to the Hotel we were pretty much Knackered, have got to say though when we did go into the bar one night the atmosphere was good! the girl sax player stood on the bar was really good and the cocktails were damned good (if a little pricey)......the only downside for me (as a spectacle wearer) is try adjusting the corridor and lift lights a little bit more!! I ended up in the wrong toilets twice and ended up on every floor of the hotel except the one I wanted :))))
The hotel is really well placed for all the sights and the sounds of Temple Bar.... we just walked the other way most nights and discovered plenty of little gems.......so we'll deffo be returning :)

Our flight arrived early so we went to the hotel hoping the rooms would be ready. They were not ready, however, "Ramute" was quick to help find or rearrange to accommodate our requests. She worked diligently to find a room ready and even upgraded us for a nominal fee. It is nice after a long flight to have someone willing to help and make sure we could check in. Room is beautiful, large and cozy. Great location too!

Room Tip: Like the rooms near the back of the hotel.

I stayed in The Morgan Hotel a few years ago and despite a little noise at night (which is to be expected given the location) I generally enjoyed by stay. I decided to give it another go when staying in Dublin with my partner recently.

Firstly the positives. When checking in the staff dealt with us quickly and were really polite and helpful, likewise when checking out. I think the receptionists name was Gosia - she really couldn't have done enough and definitely deserves a mention.

The hotel is in a very convenient location right on the edge of temple bar and also close to Grafton and O'Connell Street. There are plenty of bars and restaurants close by for breakfast, if you chose not to have it in the hotel. We ate out for breakfast each day so I can't really comment on the food.

The rooms were clean and comfortable and although they could get warm there was a fan in the room so it wasn't an issue. We stayed in a Contemporary Queen room on the 4th floor at the front of the hotel and while the room was a little small it wasn't too much of an issue and the bed was super comfortable!

On to the negatives. While I have stayed before and experienced some noise it was extremely noisy during this stay. I expect noise to some degree based on the location but not to this level. The hotel does have a bar/nightclub on the ground floor which went on very late and this combined with noise from the street and other guests in the hotel made for an uncomfortable nights sleep. I would say I had no more than 2 hours sleep in the entire night.
I had read the other reviews in relation to noise so emailed the hotel before our arrival to request a room at the back of the hotel which obviously wasn't possible.

The walls are also paper thin so we had a hen party arriving back to their room at 5am next door which we had no option but to listen to until around 6.30am when all went quiet....at last.

If it wasn't for the noise I would consider staying here again. As it is, I don't think i'll be back. Its a shame as it is a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back of the hotel. Top floor at front still very noisy!

Good location for Temple Bar night life but extremely noisy at night you definitely cannot leave the window open and hope to sleep if your room at the front of the hotel!!!! Definitely very poor value for money we were room only basis and were over 500 euros for four nights but as Dublin overall an extremely expensive city it is probably in keeping with other hotels. For all it costs for breakfast it would have been a much better experience for us if this had been included in our room rate. The room we had was a bit tired. The beds were comfy. Small bathroom with hand held shower and overhead shower. Water power good but frequently changed temperature from roasting hot to cold whilst having a shower, not a very pleasant experience. The wardrobe was very tired inside with the purple paint all scraped off in places and only 6 hangers !! Iron burn on carpet. Chipped paint throughout room. Very crushed chair cover on big chair in room. Room not properly cleaned for 4 days tho bathroom was and clean towels every day. Cups not washed one day though tray was restocked. One night a dog had fouled right outside hotel obviously a guest had stood in it and decided to wipe his/her shoe on the carpet in the corner of the lift. This remained on the carpet until the end of our 4 day stay prob is still there lift light so dim prob no one noticed. Not good!! Staff are all very pleasant We did not complain which is our fault but what would they heve done for us ???? Be aware future guests there is a very noisy disco in the Morgan bar all weekend with bongo drums and a saxophone player. Overall we had a poor experience in the Morgan and would definitely not recommend it or return.

Room Tip: Don't have a front room

midwifeScotland, Hi and Hello form the team here at the Morgan. Thank you so much for taking the time to write a review about your recent stay in Dublin and at the Morgan. I couldn't agree with you more about the some of the prices in Ireland at the minute. That being said, at the Morgan we try extremely hard to provide the best value for all our guests and we are resolute in providing quailty food items locally sourced from near by suppliers, Innovative drink offerings and elegant rooms. I have discussed you review at length with my accommodation team and full re-training has taken place in recent days. I understand that this is of little consulation to you know but it is only by direct guest feed back that we really improve and make lasting changes to the services we provide to all our guests.

Thank you again for you genuine feedback, we cannot thank you enough.

Regards

The location of the hotel is excellent but the noise level around the hotel is horrendous.
Rooms were very good with nice solid bed and decent linen. No air conditioning which
can be a problem on warm evenings, fan supplied.
Big surprise was that breakfast was excellent, great choice of various foods to suit all
tastes. Would stay again.

Room Tip: Higher floor at the rear

Stayed here in April (so a few months ago) for 2 nights, just to see what all the fuss about Dublin was. We chose a hotel in Temple Bar as we knew it was going to be lively and busy. And it was!
The hotel looks smart and we had probably one of most friendliest "welcomes" ever, by the guest relations manager. A very good start. We made it up to the room and was very happy with the bathroom and style of the room. It is very modern, as per the other reviews you will read on here. We had a drink in the bar, but didn't stay long as it was a bit too clubby for us - we prefer a pub.
You do hear a bit of noise from the bar / club but I think it's to be expected with the location.
Breakfast was very impressive, with a very attentive waitress service - a lovely Irish lady looked after us both days, remembering our tea and toast choices, which is a nice personal touch. I wish I had the chance to commend her but I had too much Guinness the night before! Breakfast consisted of the usual, scrambled eggs and toast were cooked to order and the selection of bacon and sausages did the job. I was very happy to crawl out of bed and have something to eat there! The only let down on our short stay was the air con / fan was badly vibrating - when we reported it the staff, who were very apologetic, didn't get it fixed. I needed the ear plugs for that - not the music!
All in all a very good hotel, some staff really are exceptional. Unfortunately I won't be coming back, I'll try somewhere a bit out of the rat race next time.
