“Great Location, Decent Value”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 1 October 2012

Gotta love traveling during the "off season." I got a great deal on a standard room at The Gresham (via Expedia) and stayed for 2 nights. The staff were friendly and accommodating, and honestly, the location is perfect--away from the Temple Bar insanity, but close to everything.

The interior facing rooms are quiet, but the trade off is that they're dark and the view is dismal. The room was a decent size (it was a double) with a nice-sized restroom.

The lobby area and Writer's Lounge are elegant and comfortable. My only gripe would be that the breakfast was overpriced (as others have mentioned).

Would I stay here again? Probably--especially if the price was right.

I'll start with the positives of this hotel and there aren't many ..... The staff at check in and the Toddy's Bar were both friendly and efficient. Exactly what you would want and indeed expect. Location wise, this hotel is centrally based on O'Connell Street which has great access to shops, bars, restaurants and literally is a 10 minute walk to Grafton Street.

Now onto the negatives ..... Our room was very poor in standard. It definitely was not worth the 230 Euro price tag for an overnight stay without breakfast! Firstly, the thermostat didn't work properly, so we had to endure tropical temperatures our entire stay in the room. The door of the bathroom was faulty and didn't close. For the first time, I actually felt seasick from sitting on a toilet, it literally rocked as you sat on it! This was all topped off with no hot water the next morning. Apparently, this effected all of the guests of the hotel. I did not spend 230 Euro to not be able to have a hot shower the morning of check out.

To be fair, the guy on reception was very understanding and did remove the 15 Euro car parking fee from our bill as a gesture of good will.

All I can say is there are lots of hotels across Dublin which offer a good location and better value for money so take the time to check them out!

Stayed in the Gresham with friends from Australia on Saturday 25th August the Tall ships were in Dublin that weekend. The hotel was very busy however the rooms were satisfactory. The car parking was hard to find lift on the 3rd floor then another lift to ground floor not easily found .Breakfast on Sunday morning was tasty and quickly served all good.Unfortunately we got a phonecall to inform us of a sudden death in the family and my husbdnd and myself had to return home immediately to N Ireland. On checking out the receptionist showed us no kindness whatsoever her reply to the news was "OH" another receptionist helped her and they both dismissed us we were in bits a cup of tea or a kind word would have helped in the situation we had over two hours drive home. I have been contacting Andrew Walker to resolve the problem but he must have accepted my advice and taken the front of house staff on a course in dealing with sensitive situations as my last e-mail dated 6th September remains unanswered. Staff must respond and respect difficult situations they find themselves in if they are unprofessional in dealing with them and senior management fail to respond properly the hotel is let down and clients are unhappy. This unhappy incident left a big black mark over the Gresham we will not be returning.

Thanks to the Gresham for letting us check in at 7am after an overnight flight for our two night stay. Our room had an awful view out the back, but it was comfortable and quiet. However, our room was overlooked (not cleaned) after the first day. The breakfast was good, but very expensive! The highlight of our stay was seeing Leonard Cohen at the restaurant while having breakfast.

Room Tip: Rooms Facing the street will be noisy. rooms facing the back have an awful view.

Stayed here for 2 separate nights as a stopover before flying to sicily on the 19.09.2012 and again on 24.09.2012 on the way home, and it exceeded my expectations. We flew into Dublin airort and caught the aircoach bus which drops you off right outside the hotel so location wise it was great and also good for getting around the city. Check in was efficient and friendly, the room was spacious and very clean, and the bed has to be one of the best that I have ever slept in ,2 very good nights sleep. We didnt have breakfast at the hotel. on checkout we asked if it was possible if we could get an upgrade as we were getting married in sicily and they said they would see what they could do, which was very generous and sure enough when we checked in for our second night we had a big room and they had left us 2 muffins on a plate which said congratulations which was a lovely touch. we ate in toddys bar in the hotel and the food was great and large portion sizes, and because the bar was busy and our wait would be more than 30 minutes they provided some lovely soda bread and butter! We also enjoyed afternoon tea which was amazing, the service was perfect, the food delicious and very reasonably priced, a lovely end to a great trip........ even if it was raining!

If you like to be in the middle of things, this is the hotel for you. On one of Dublin's main streets, the hotel is a lovely 4 star--nice rooms, attractive lobby, and competent staff. But mainly, it is centrally located--near train and and the Dart stations. The Dart is a fast local train that takes you to several lovely seaside villages--all within 20-30 minutes from Dublin city center. The airport link bus, which is cheap, stops directly in front of the hotel and for the return to the airport picks up directly across the street from the hotel.

On the same block of the hotel stops about 15 different buses which take you all over the city and to nearly all of the main sightseeing places.. We bought an all day pass--about $4.50 per person and rode all around the city to several different sights.

Room Tip: We were in the newer section and called the hotel directly.

We travelled from Leeds am and Ryannair got us to Dublin quicker than it takes me to commute to Leeds. Stayed in the Gresham Hotel on O'Connoll street - fantastic hotel, friendly staff and really central. I recommend taking the open top bus to get your bearings. Everyone in Dublin makes your holiday cheerful and friendly - bus drivers, restaurant and bar staff. Temple bar is great - live music and River dance all great. Thank you ireland for a fun packed 4 days Jane and Dennis Idle Bradford
