“Comfortable Hotel, Friendly staff.”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 8 February 2014

I have previously stayed in this hotel. It hasn't changed much in 12 years, and that is a good thing. The staff are friendly, welcoming and very helpful! The room was basic, but clean, the shower was warm and the bed was so comfortable, I didn't want to get out of it! Breakfast was not included in our price, but that was because we booked it through Booking.com. Next time we will book directly through their website. Check in says 15:00, but we were allowed to check in at 13:00.

It is next door to a backpackers Hostel, which I believe is run by the same people. There are many Hotels/Hostels along the same road, but this one stands out with its big red sign. The building itself is quite quirky, some of the rooms you can get to by the lift by reception, others you need to walk up some stairs and across a landing before you get to the lift. Its unusual, and adds to the Hotel's appeal

A downside to the room we were in was the outside noise. I believe we were next to an office or structural works, as there was an air conditioning Unit blowing until at least 11pm - 12am every night. I didn't notice the noise myself, but my other half said the noise kept him awake. Not a Major complaint from either of us. The only other sticking point was the age of the TV in the room and the TV reception, which we hardly watched anyway. I think I'm just nit-picking as I really liked this hotel.

The hotel itself is only about 5 minutes walk from O'Connell Street, with excellent links for busses, coaches and shops. It also has excellent Wifi.

Near to the rail and bus station this is not picture postcard Dublin but is is 5 minutes from the main shopping area and an easy stroll to the river or to the more photogenic parts of Georgian Dublin. There is a mixture of hotel, hostel and backpacker accommodation in the area but the Townhouse is pitched at the middle of the market and is quietly comfortable without the annoyance of late light revellers. No pretentions, apart from their Townhouse logo'd carpet, but clean, tidy and reasonable value.

Room Tip: My room was in a newer part of the hotel. It's possible the original building might have more ch...

Stayed here for 3 nights Jan 22nd 2014. Excellent value for money. Well located for all the sights and shopping and plenty of eating places nearby. We were warmly welcomed. Room was cold so staff happily moved us to another room which was much warmer. I left something behind after we checked out and they have forwarded it on to me. Booking directly through their website gave us the best deal compared to other hotel booking websites and included full breakfast. The building is an old Georgian house, very elegant but it does mean the rooms and bathroom aren't spacious. The room was clean and there was good wi-fi in the hotel.

Room Tip: We had a room at the front on the top floor. The road outside is busy but because we were high up it...

We hired 4 double rooms and car parking for 2 cars for one night on Thursday 30th January.
Check in normally is not until 3pm but the friendly staff allowed us to check in before 2pm.
We were not expecting a lot for the little we paid (breakfast included) and were quite surprised to find it was very pleasant and comfortable.
Our en-suite room was on the first floor and suited our needs exactly. Our balcony overlooked a nice little Japanese garden.
We enjoyed a very pleasant night in a very comfortable King size bed.
Again surprisingly, there was plenty of choices for breakfast, cereals, fruit, cold plates and hot plates. Coffee, teas, Juices, etc. The breakfast was enjoyable though my wife said the coffee was woefully bad.
Overall, I would highly recommend this fine little guesthouse to anyone staying in Dublin and conscious of their budget as this is one little guesthouse that is very good value for money and conveniently close to just about every where.

We booked a four night stay over new year. The entrance is lovely and had a beautiful tree and the staff were welcoming. However it was joined to a hostel so the reception staff were helping us and hostellers who used the same communal areas but for a much lower price. This was not a problem during the stay but it did undermine the price we paid. All bookings get free breakfast (including walk ins) unless you have booked on booking.com as I did. This wasn't clear at booking, although this is more of an issue with the website than the hotel.

The room was reasonable - a comfortable bed and it was warm (sometimes too warm and I am always cold!) but it was run down and the dressing table had a handle missing, as well as some mould in the shower. The shower had no light in it and was very dark and temperamental, on the last morning we checked out early and the shower was completely cold - i couldn't have a shower but my boyfriend braved it! There was some repair work happening outside the room and this was noisy but I imagine that was only during our stay and will be fixed now.

Overall i would say that it is fine if you imagine a private room in a hostel rather than a hotel but it was a bit disappointing.

Beautiful hotel,
classy, quant elegant, very clean, bedrooms clean smart, comfy beds, bathroom elegant and well maintained, very old victorian hotel decorated to a high standard, breakfast spot on, they aim to please so if your not happy with anything tell them and they will bend over backwards to put it right. I notice the comments noisy room, tell them you will be moved, if you put up with things that you dont like dont moan about it when tbey cant do anything about it. People like that just want to complain about everything. This hotel for the money is first class. I know I travel the world regularly trying to find gems like this, I stayed here 10 years ago it has not let me down this time, great hotel then and now. Keep it up

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper ask for a room away from the road

We had a quiet room to ourselves. It was older that's for sure, but it was still quaint and comfortable. We participated in the traditional Irish breakfast in the morning for 5 euros too and that provided us with a good spread of foods.

The staff were very helpful and friendly and let us keep our luggage on sight before and after we checked out of the hotel.

Only main hiccup: the bathroom had lots of black mold :(

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room when you make a reservation! We did!
