“Great place to stay and very friendly”
Reviewed 1 October 2008

I stayed in the Townhouse the first week of September and had a great time. When I arrved early in the morning and coming in from the rain after a long flight, they offered me a full breakfast while I was waiting for my room. The breakfast room staff offered a large Irish breakfast each day and were very cheery. I loved the single room that I had, The bed was very comfortable and although the room was small it had two large windows overlooking the inner courtyard and the bath was acceptable with a shower only. I felt very comfortable in the room after long days of sightseeing each day. A week later when i was leaving early in the morning for the airport, I wanted a cab and the guy at the front desk talked me out of it and said a city bus was coming by in a few minutes and would get me to the airport in 20 min at that time of day. I took his advice, the bus came right away and I was at the airport in 20 minutes at the cost of 2 euro (instead of 30). I would recommend this place highly.

Having had a bad experience here a few years ago, I gave this hotel a second chance recently when I needed somewhere central near Connolly Station.
Thankfully this time I was given a room in what they refer to as the 'Annex' and not at the front of the building overlooking Lower Gardiner Street.
If you do get there and they allocate you a room overlooking this street, ask to be moved immediately or else run from the building screaming in pure terror.
The street noise at night is incessant and unbearable.

Check in staff vary in friendliness. There is one dour man there but this time I was checked in by a very friendly Dublin gent and a very pleasant female assistant, so no dourness this time.

The same cannot be said of the rooms in the Annex. I got a nice single room here at a very good price including breakfast. The rooms here mostly look out over an internal courtyard. I slept like a baby. Weekends can be a little noisy (nearby pub noise)but midweek is mostly fine.

While the hotel was probably one of the first Dublin Boutique type hotels, it is now beginning to show it's age. However it is still well maintained and the quality of the room was very good. Everything working and no problem with cleanliness.
There is an in room safe in most rooms, tea making facilities, TV - but the reception was a little snowy, decent shower-room and toilet. They are a bit mean with the toiletries but it is a budget hotel after all and if you do want more toiletries you can ask and they will be given to you.
For those of you who want to look perfect for that special night out there is an ironing board and iron set up in the basement corridor.
It is 3 mins walk to Bus Aras, 5 mins to Connolly station and less than 10 to O'Connell Street.

Buffet breakfast is very good, and you can fill up easily for the day here. Staff in the breakfast room are friendly, the room itself a bit sparse, but adequate.

Nothing luxurious about this place, but the location is great, most of the staff are friendly and you can't beat the price in Dublin City centre.

Stayed at the townhouse in May with my partner. Found it to be a snazzy guesthouse, that belonged to two playwrights. Lots of history, staff friendly and always accomodating. We had a lovely, large comfortable room at the back of the building, over a quiet Jappanese courtyard. The bathroom was large and had a bath, shower. A fine healthy breakfast was served, with lots of choice, especially good for Vegetarian's.

The real joy though was the beautiful entrance area, which had strong Georgian period detail, and was beautifully lit and inviting. Would deffinately go again.

This place is a really beauful old hotel tastefully redecorated but room 119 where we are staying is like being in the basement. It's the only room on the ground floor and has no bath. When I book a room with a shared bath, I don't expect to have to take the elevator or climb the stairs. Also the room is so dark and oddly decorated that it's depressing being in it knowing the rest of the hotel is quite nice. Reccomend staying here but not in room 119.

Stayed at the townhouse for St. Patty's day and had an amazing time. Our rooms were much nicer than expected and even had small balconies overlooking the small courtyard below. The rooms were very clean, and tastefully decorated. The full Irish Breakfast very AM was lively, and really very good! On the holiday itself there was live music and dancing in the breakfast room. If you sleep in, it is a little harder to get a table, but over all everything was fabulous. Ideal for younger travelers.

We found the Townhoouse to be in an excellent location. Our room was lovely with a large bathroom but there was a bit of a problem with the hot water. We found the staff to be a real mixture, some were not very helpful at all and others were just the opposite. We had no trouble getting a table for breakfast as others on this site have stated but maybe this was because we were there in the middle of winter and it may not have been so busy. Overall we enjoyed our stay here.

We've stayed at the townouse 3 times now and find it a very nice to stay. Our rooms each time have been clean, tidy and quite big. The staff cant do enough for you and its situated near the city centre so you havnt got to walk to far to see what dublin has to offer( which is quite alot). Breakfast is lovely cereal,a full english, toast tea or coffee and fruit juice and served in a nice dining room.We cant fault it and will stay there any time we're in dublin.
