“Perfect stay in O'Callaghan Davenport Hotel”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

If you want culture, atmosphere, great service, very nice Irish food, and enjoy listening to the pleasant low key lull of happy people, then this is the hotel for you. You will rub shoulders with politicians, business folk, Irish relaxing, having a special celebratory meal with family and friends ... it's all there .... whether you eat in the dining/bar or the restaurant you'll be given generous servings of hearty Irish fare. The rooms are excellent, spacious, comfortable beds, everything spotless. Taxis always at the ready outside. You are in walking distance of so many treats - Trinity College - Museum - fabulous park - Oscar Wilde's house plus his statue in the park, The Mansion House, shops, pubs.. you can catch a free bus and see much, much, more. The O'Callaghan Davenport has underground car parking if required. It is a significant heritage building, originally a church dating back to 1863 so if you like combining heritage with elegance, comfort with style and a warm welcome then stay here.

Room Tip: I stayed in different rooms on different visits - all the same excellent quality. It is not a noisy...

I stayed at the Davenport last week (May, 2014). This is a good quality hotel, with lots of old character. The staff were friendly and professional, and the room was clean with a very comfortable bed. It is located round the corner from Trinity college, so there are many restaurants and pubs within walking distance. I walked into the Grafton street area almost every night (about a 20 minute walk), but there were plenty of options along the way. The breakfast buffet was decent, with a selection of cold and hot items, although it was nothing fancy. This was fine with me, I'd rather eat breakfast and get on with the process of exploring this wonderful city. The deal I had gave me free wifi, which was great. I would definitely return and would recommend the hotel to friends.

I stayed here for 2 nights in April. This is a nice hotel and I would stay here again. It's in a nice location in walking distance to many of the major attractions. The hotel staff was very friendly and always helpful. We arrived before check-in time and they were able to accommodate our early arrival. We were relieved since we were on a red-eye from the east coast in the States that arrived in the morning in Dublin. Lisa who always seemed to be at the front desk was so lovely to chat with and very kind and patient in answering all of our questions. The breakfast buffet was very nice and pretty tasty. The rooms were clean and neat. The beds were small, but I found that to be typical in most places that I stayed in Ireland. This was the perfect hotel to start our vacation.

Had a room on the second floor. There was no view from the window. The room was nicely appointed. The bed was comfy. The breakfast was tasty although it did appear to be organised chaos. The reception staff were very obliging and knowledgeable.

Would definitely recommend this hotel for a high quality centrally located hotel.

Dear Conor O,

Thank you for taking the time to leave a review regarding your recent stay with us.

It is wonderful to read that you found the hotel to be of high quality, from the comfortable room and tasty breakfast, to its location and helpful reception staff to whom I will be sure to pass on your praise. We had recently upgraded our breakfast presentation, so apologies if it seemed a little chaotic while everything fell into place.

The team and I wish you all the best and hope to have the pleasure of welcoming you back in the near future.

Warmest Regards,

We enjoyed our few days at the Davenport. The beds and pillows were comfy, the bathroom fresh and clean with really hot water, the breakfast buffet extensive and tasty. The front desk staff were cheerful and helpful. My only problem was the one hour a day free WiFi. Once you had logged in for your hour that was it for 11 hours. Not very useful when you are checking out tours and restaurants or trying to make bookings. Every other hotel and guest house we stayed in in Ireland had free unlimited use of the internet. Only a small niggle in what was otherwise a great stay.

Room Tip: Choose a room away from the side with the Pub - gets a bit noisy and it goes on well into the night.

This hotel welcomed us and our luggage at 7:30 am. The hotel staff took our luggage promised to try to let us in our room early and told us where we could get coffee. They also gave us conference access to their wireless so we could let our families know we had arrived safely. We had breakfast in their dining room early and allowed us to charget o our non existing room. When we returned to the hotel after exploring around 12 they had a room for us ready and waiting and knew we were coming in for our luggage they also gave knowledgable information about the location of attractions. Just a super old hotel with all the old world charm and not the cost. This hotel is renovated but had the old architecture and carm. The staff were very accomodating and really seemed to enjoy their jobs. This made the stay even more pleasant. The hotel is within walking distance of buses and attractions an excellent location in Dublin. Just lovely.

The hotel was in a great location - very easy to walk to most places or to pick-up public transport(buses and DART).
Our room was a very good size (which is one of the reasons we chose this hotel) and the beds were very comfortable. I would expect tea and coffee equipment in the room but was delighted to find a teapot too, since I do not like making tea in a mug with a bag.
Two nights, because of being very tired from doing so much each day, we decided to eat in the President's Bar and were pleasantly surprised by the high standard of the food we chose.
