“Car park????”
Reviewed 27 August 2009

I chose this hotel after a lot of research on Dublin hotels, for our honeymoon.
The hotel itself was amazing, especially if u like to be in the thick of all the action. Really central to most things in Dublin ( I really recomend the Guiness storehouse and Jamesons distilery). And u cant get better night life from a hotel, lovely irish music first then nice dance music and a nightclub on the weekend (although a bit pointless having it downstairs???). The breakfast is lovely, esp the sausages. And the rooms were very comfortable and the staff really helpful when it came to room service.
Now for the bad bit. If u have a car then all u can do is hope that they have a space available for you as we turned up after a long overnight journey only to find that they had no space for us and we had to pay extortionate prices in the multistorey carpark. When they did have a space for us a few hours later we parked there and were told that it would still be there when we got back if we ever wanted to take the car out. We didnt want to risk it and for a few days stayed in Dublin touring everything. But on the last but one day of our stay we wanted to go to Kildare to visit family, but were told we were NOT guarenteed a space when we got back, so we disappointedly decided to leave it til the last day instead. When we got back from Kildare, sure enough the space was gone, and the multistorey carparks were locked up. Luckily one of the did open their doors for us, but next day we had to pay 12 euros for parking over night when we should have had free parking. I think the hotel should maybe scrap the nightclub and make it into a new bigger car park, at least you would be guarenteed a space then. Just keep the music in the bar area?
Had a lovely time apart from that though. Would recommend as long as you are not planning on taking your car out anywhere.

Central Location, walking distance to everything! Went with 8 other women for friends b/day. Rooms at back of hotel was very large and modern with lift, but ones at front small and old decor with 3 fllights of stairs to manage.
Beds were very comfy, hotel was very clean, most staff were not Irish, but spoke good English.

We thought we would see the show in the hotel, for traditional Irish dancing and food. The warm up band were great fun, telling jokes along the way and did all the traditional stuff. But to be honest we were disappointed that there was only 2 women and 1 make dancer doing the show! All around the hotel they are advertising 8-10 dancers, making it look like a real full on show, but it wasn't ! The costumes were very basic and I doubt that these dancers have ever danced in Riverdance as the hotel suggests. The food had mixed opinions within our group, being Irish I found the lamb stew to be just potatoes and the Salmon was very bland. The chicken had good comments, but pudding was horrid! The menu also differed when u got to your table from the adverts online and in the hotel leaflets!
Therefore after some thought I spoke with the manager, who I must say was very nice and gave us some money back and a free drink!

Breakfast was lovely and traditional Irish-everything! Great after a late night out and for 5 euro u can have breakfast in bed.

Bouncers at the door were very rude and agressive and being a non smoker I noticed everyone who smoked had to stand on the road, which in Dublin is dangerous!

All in all, there was pros and cons of hotel, but we didn't stop it from ruining our experience! Very central which was great!

All I would say is Dont go to the show, or if u do, dont have the package and just pop down there and see for yourself! Live music also upstairs!

My husband was in Dublin on business, I was there for pleasure, and our stay at this hotel was great, but not if you want peace and quite. Although in general the hotel looked a little tired, it more than made up for this in personality. The entertainment was just that, the staff were friendly and helpful, but the best part of our 3 night stay was the 'full Irish breakfast'. The quality of the food was very good, expertly cooked, hot, and you could have as much or as little as you wanted. There was also the normal fruit, yoghurt and cereal etc. if you wanted it, and the irish soda bread is well worth trying. The restaurant staff were exemplary and a credit to the lovely lady who warmly greets you each morning when you enter. You can drink as much tea or coffee as you wish, and the staff are always close by and more than happy to fill your cup up again. The position of the hotel is perfect for all of your sightseeing, either by foot, bus or taxi. If you want to sample some Irish bars, then just accross the bridge is 'Temple Bar', which is a must if you want to have a jar, listen to some Irish music and enjoy the 'crack'. You are spoilt for choice when it comes to dining out, everything from fast food to chic restaurants. The Arlington Hotel is literlary on the banks of the Liffy, which makes for a lovely walk in the morning to blow the cobwebs away. do try the little coffee shop/shack by the bridge, they make the best cappuccino. We will be going back to the Arlington Hotel again in October, this time we are going to sample the evening 'dinner & dance' there, and diet before we go!

My family also stayed here for the U2 concerts. This hotel is convenient to walking around the city. The staff was friendly and more than willing to assist. The Knightsbridge pub, attached to the hotel on the street level, is large and lively. The breakfast buffet provided a good start in the morning. The hotel is clean and rooms large enough to be comfortable. Noise from the pub, or street was not a problem. The beds were very comfortable. I would stay here again when visiting Dublin.

Like many others, my friend and I stayed at the Arlington for the U2 concert. I think we got the best we could expect on a harried, busy weekend for the staff, but I didn't come away all that impressed.

The hotel has its own enormous pub, restaurant, and stage area that is just off reception. Trying to talk to anyone in the "lobby" meant you had to nearly shout to be heard and after 10, you had to go through the pub entrance to enter the hotel, where you get accosted by the bouncer. Not a huge deal, but after walking a couple miles around the city, not appreciated.

We asked for quiet single rooms and were put near the back of the hotel (I think) on the third floor. I was woken up just before 6 each morning to deliveries being made to the hotel. It sounded like the delivery man couldn't get in, so would kick the door every few seconds, trying to get someone's attention (he got mine).

The rooms were largish, with a desk and TV, nightstands, etc. The "double" bed was two singles pushed together with separate mattresses and linen and about 1-2" difference in height, so no spreading out to sleep. The bathroom was large, with tub/shower not just shower. As another reviewer noted, no fans or AC and the windows opened all of about 6", so ventilation was a problem in late July.

My friend had a problem with the service in that he asked for the shampoo dispenser to be refilled when it ran empty. The front desk sent a man up who took a look and said "that's not shampoo, that's the body wash"...as if that solved the issue. My buddy had to essentially argue with the man that, regardless of which one it was, it should be refilled. Then, ten minutes later, the TV went dead. These are small things, but they add up.

All in all, this is an upscale crash pad. If they worked a bit on, say, separate entrances for hotel and pub, better ventilation in the rooms, and taught their maintenance staff some niceties, this would improve things.

Pros
- Great location, very close to Temple Bar, Trinity College, O'Connel St.; 15 min. walk to Croke Park
- Desk staff were helpful if a little frazzled.
- Good breakfast and dinners

Cons
- Didn't like the pub/entertainment area connected to the hotel. Get a key card security entrance if you want the hotel to be secure, don't make guests go through bouncers.
- Poor ventilation in rooms
- Maintenance staff need some training.
- Free wifi, but only one internet station with a bad computer (froze a lot) for those without their own laptops.

Last Word
I only don't recommend this hotel because I think you could do better with a B&B if you wanted a more personal stay in Dublin. It was just fine for a crash landing after the U2 concert. :)

Stayed in the hotel in June, when it was relatively warm.

Arrived just after noon and they had the room ready for me. Got into the room and just got my shirt off when a guy comes into the room (knocks on the door, does not wait) to fix the bathroom lights (which were not broken). The a couple of minutes later, a giggly girl comes in and leaves without saying anything (must have been staff as well). After that I kept the do not disturb -sign on whenever I was in the room and got no more surprises.

The room was rather spacious, with a good bed and good sized bath room. the only downside was that there was no air conditioning, and the window did not open much, so the room was really warm and not so good to sleep in. Other than that it was quite ok.

Free wi-fi was available, quite fast, but came with a very weird porn blocker, blocking some definitely non-porn sites. There was a safe in the room, big enough for the laptop.

The staff at the reception and restaurant were very friendly and helpful. Definitely would stay again, but probably not mid summer.

Stayed here for one night during U2's homecoming, so the location for me was the best thing about it, as I knew we'd only be in the hotel for a few hours sleep! We had a triple room for a good price as I'd booked before U2 officially announced the extra gig. All hotels in Dublin city then were ridiculously priced. The room was superb, very spacious, 1 queen sized bed, and 2 singles. You could have slept 6 people in there!!! It was clean, and everything you'd want for a night or so stay. But as I said location wise, it's brilliant. Only gripe was they only had one receptionist on during one of Dublin's busiest nights = a queue of people checking in.
