“Youth Hostel is what it felt like!”
Reviewed 29 January 2014 via mobile

Booked to stay here for one night, as we had previously stayed and enjoyed it. Previously we had a room on an upper floor at the back, and although everything maybe isn't state of the art, its a great price spacious room and nice and clean.
However on this stay, we were allocated a room on the lower ground floor at the back. It was a nice room, clean, tidy and spacious overlooking the rear courtyard.
Everything seemed well until we returned from dinner and headed to bed. A lot of noise started - shouting, yelling, screaming, sounded like a full blown party taking place.
We thought it was coming from above (as there seemed to be a function room above us). It was so loud it actually woke us from our sleep.
Phoned reception and they said they would sort it out, nothing happened still the noise continued, phoned again, nothing. Phoned again and asked to be moved to a different room, which they did.
However, when we packed and dressed to move we discovered a large group of young people lying on the floors, all along the corridor, shouting, yelling and some running up and down. They appeared to be overflowing from a large room on the ground floor which looked like a youth hostel dorm!
As I said they not only moved us to another room but also to their sister hotel - Harrington Hall. The room was lovely and eventually we were able to get to sleep after having to settle in again. Unfortunately not the Hotels fault, but we stayed in a room at street level at the front, and the noise from the Lewis passing by is a little disruptive. We have stayed also at Harrington Hall before in a room at the rear and loved it.
I wouldn't return to the Harcourt after this incident as no-one could explain what these kids were doing there, but I'd guess they were a youth group who got a cheap deal for the night and had no adult supervision. The hotel staff seemed baffled when we described what had happened.
Cheap it might be to stay here but pay a few extra pounds and stay at the Harrington Hall next door (ask for a room at the back) or for an even quieter stay try the Travelodge St Stephens Green.

A fairly basic hotel, very well located and a perfect base if you're in Dublin to party!! Bar and nightclub downstairs stay open really late so if you're looking for a quiet weekend away it may be best to book elsewhere!! Breakfast is extra but is a great spread and worth for that morning after cure!

friendly staff (friendly people at all these dubliners!); the hotel was a real surprise, it's much more bigger than you could expect only by looking at it from the road. well organized for the new year's eve, we spent the night in the disco downstairs. the day we arrived we had a great brunch in the restaurant. the hotel is also near to grafton street, i think the most famous dublin shopping street. see u next time in the same place!

After reading reviews on here I was honestly expecting worse. Stayed here recently with my boyfriend to attend a party on Harcourt street. Booked here because it was cheaper and we were only looking for somewhere to lay our heads. booked a double room, upon entering our room was pleasantly surprised to have gotten a room with a double bed and a single. The room was clean and small but not that small for the two of us when you have the double and a single bed in a room, Bathroom was clean and well stocked with towels etc. We arrived back to the hotel in the early hours of the morning, so didn't notice if there was any noise from DTwo, which our room over looked. Only two down sides I have to report is, the room was quite dimly lit. Only had the bathroom light and bedsides, with no overhead lights so it was a bit dark. And secondly, the waitress in the bar was very rude. After my boyfriend made a joke, interrupting me while I made my order [which he does regularly and I know is a joke. It's obvious sarcasm even the people we were dining with knew it] she felt it was her place to rudely reprimand him and then be rude to him and the other male at our table until she left for the evening thankfully. However after this we were served by another waitress who was lovely and made up for it.

Overall I would stay here again, it was cheap and cheerful and did the job of having a place to stay after a night out. However, probably wouldn't recommend for a family on vacation and such

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't over look the courtyard if possible

As always we had another great stay at The Harcourt! The rooms were very clean and the breakfast was excellent.

We were in Dublin for the nightlife so the noise from the nightclub didn't bother us.

However if you are travelling with a family then this probably isn't the hotel for you.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that doesn't overlook the beer garden.

It was the WORST Hotel we ever stayed in . The room was so small that when I put out my hand when I was in bed I could reach the bathroom door . The toilet when flushed made such a loud noise and it took forever to fill to flush again . The noise from the street and night club was just terrible . It was 7am before it quietened down . We had a room where we got the lift for three floors and then had to climb 3 other flights of stairs to get to it, We stayed there with three other couples and they experienced the same problem with the noise . I would not recommend this Hotel to my worst enemy . We were chared 80 euros which was 80 euros too much .

extremely friendly staff, was travelling with wheelchair, very helpful with ramp etc, on 2nd floor so although there was a lift we had 2 go up 2 stairs to get to room which was a bit awkward, only stayed one nite so persevered, however would have asked to be moved if had have been staying longer, rooms clean if a little dated, people complaining about noise but we heard nothing, lovely evening meal and breakfast, only fault was I was really shocked that the price of the drink increased as the night progressed, apparently this is the norm in Dublin, I thought it was disgraceful. have never heard of that before, apart from that had a lovely time, everyone very helpful to us, big shout out to Paul who organised all for us
