“By far the best hotel in Dublin area”
Reviewed 1 December 2013

Beautiful hotel, superb service and incredibly good value for money. I would recommend this hotel as representing the very best you will find at a reasonable price, anywhere in the Dublin area for either a short break holiday or for a business trip. Also, the way the old castle architecture has been integrated into a modern hotel reminds me of some of the excellent Parador Hotels in Spain!

I chose this hotel as it looks amazing in photos and I've always wanted to stay in a castle. It was my birthday whilst there and I honestly felt like a princess.

room was comfortable, large. Modern and worth the money as it beat all my expectations.

The castle is not in the centre of Dublin but you can bus and taxi into town easily. Taxis are usually parked outside the castle.

Everyone we met outside the complex kept telling us how lovely our hotel was which was reassuring.

Can't say anything bad about clontarf castle.

We checked into the Clontarf late November. Just walking into the hotel was a treat; the staff was very friendly and eager to help with our bags. Check in was a breeze and the staff answered all of our questions. The rooms are extremely spacious for European hotel. Our room had its own little courtyard that we could open our windows to. We chose to have the buffet breakfast the following day for about 14 euros. Although it translates into about 20 dollars it was also worth it. Good array of food served in a very pretty breakfast dining area. That staff was also very sweet and accommodating, constantly refilling our tea and coffee. The hotel itself is half old castle and half new building. The only downfall is the location, although it is not far from the center of town, it does not have any nearby bus station so you have to take a taxi anywhere you go.

Very nice place, lovely reception area. The knights bar is just beautiful with excellent food and drinks. The rooms were very nice and modern.

The surrounding area is all houses. You can walk out of the castle and straight ahead for about ten min and you will come to a nice area to walk along the waterfront. If you walk about 15 min to the right, there is a small town with a few restaurants and shops. You could see even further ahead there was a bigger town , but it was too much walking for us.

There is a very old cemetary directly behind the hotel, it is interesting to walk through, sadly it has been badly vandalized.

This is great place to stay if you just like hanging out at the hotel. The cab ride was 25 euros from the airport. Would be even more if you went into dublin.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your review of Clontarf Castle Hotel. I was very pleased to read that you liked the hotel so much. I'm delighted you liked your meals during your stay, I'll be sure to pass your compliments on to the staff in the bars and restaurant. Regarding the location of the hotel, we are located 2 miles from Dublin city centre and 5 miles from the airport. Taxi prices really depend on the volume of traffic. However, there are excellent cost effective public transport options to the city from the castle with bus and DART stops close by. Many thanks again for your feedback, we really appreciate it and would be delighted to welcome you back to Clontarf Castle Hotel again in the future if you return to the area.

We spent one night at the hotel and loved it! The reception area is very impressive as are the rooms, the bar and the breakfast area; lots of classy, quirky design touches mixed with the traditional castle interior. The staff are very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was fantastic! We will definately be back and try the restaurant for dinner this time.

This place is beautiful, part castle and part modern hotel. The rooms are spacious and very nice. Great staff and very helpful. We had dinner at the Knight's Bar and the food was great! We only had 1 night here and wish we could have stayed longer. Only problem was that our GPS could not find the hotel and we drove around for an extra half hour. We look forward to another visit in 2015!
