“Maple Hotel”
Reviewed 10 April 2013

After spending half an hour standing at the front desk waiting to check in. We were eventually given our room key.
We had to go out the back of the hotel down an alley, passing a conservatory which was a storage cupboard, into a different building where our room was located.
This section was filthy, the skirting boards were hanging off, paint peeling off the walls, it didnt have a pleasent atmosphere. Entering our room it stank of cigarettes despite booking a non-smoking room. We immediately went back to reception.
The receptionist did not seem pleased. He offered us another room. This was in the same building as before but on the top floor. It was much better, no smoke smell and we had a phone call from reception to see if the room was ok. However, having the window open we often had a waft of cigarette smell.

The room was basic and filthy, but the bed was very comfortable!
The bathroom was tiny and stank of mould. The toilet handle was covered in limescale and the shower looked like it hadnt been cleaned in months. The shower was louder than a aeroplane taking off and spat water out at different temperatures.

Our bedsheets were covered in bits.

The security of the hotel was good, having to be buzzed in when coming home in the evening. However, the safety of our things was a concern, the hotel didnt ask for our names just room number and gave us the key straight away. We never saw the same receptionist.

The location of this hotel was good. Easy to get to the river, airport bus and very easy walking distance to Temple Bar and O'connell street.

We will definitely be visiting Dublin again but unfortunately will not be visiting this hotel again.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor not bottom.

The room was on the top floor with no lift. Had to drag luggage up several flights of stairs by ourselves. Small, very old fashion quaint room just good enough for sleeping. The pictures online did not match our room but it served its purpose. The tv was old, remote did not work. The location was really good. Walking distance to the Temple Bar was perfect and less noise at night than South of the river. The staff were very friendly. Getting to and from the airport and ferry was very easy and no problems. We just needed a place to leave luggage and sleep so it was acceptable for what we needed it for.

Was quite easy to find it, though the street I took to walk to it was very dirty. It looked niceand clean from outside and even better in the night. The reception was polite and wellcoming. Breakfast was added for 5 EUR extra and was worth it. Room was clean and nice, bedsheets white and crispy. Reception was also helpful with bus times for me to go to airport as it had to be middle of the night. Overall very good experience. Worth every cent.

Room Tip: Ask for the quiter room, far from staff rooms may be and there were also some wrks going on I think.

The room smelt with cigarettes despite it was a non-smoking room, the bathroom had a bit of mould on the tiles by the ceilling. It wasn't that bad consideting the price but I will not recommend it to anyone and will never go there again. it does not matter that the place is a bit old-fashioned but as long as it is clean and smells nice makes a huge difference. Thanks

Stayed here for a night as part of a group when visiting Dublin for a birthday party. While small, our room had everything you would need for an overnight stay - comfortable bed, tea & coffee making facilities, hairdryer & a recently refurbished bathroom. Staff were very friendly, helpful & accommodating. The bar had a nice atmosphere & the food was tasty & good value. Breakfast was also of good quality.
Only issues - walls a bit thin, could hear guests walking about upstairs. Also, a few members of our party were staying on the top floor & reported that their room was very cold.
A hotel I would consider again when visiting the city.

I understand accomodations with low-pretentions, but...
The windows were modern, in 19th century: both the glass pane and the frame are rattling at every bus/truck/van passing the road and, if you like social life, you could hear every word pedestrians say beneath your window. Since Lower Gardiner Street is busy day and night it's not easy having a good sleep there.
Be prepared to wash hands one at a time: here we have spring-loaded faucets (must be kept pressed), separated for hot and cold, and no plug for the sink. Should you like to wash your face, learn how to do that from your cat.
Bed sheets were permanently stained, and there were also someone else's hair (probably collected from the carpet).
In my room there was barely enough space to walk around the bed.
Haven't words for the furniture and the main light switch location: just have a look at the picture.
There's also a bright spot: this location (which, by the way, is populated by lots of b&b, hostels and hotels) is great to reach O'Connell Street and Connolly station/Busàras with a few minutes walk.

My girlfriend and I stayed for a weekend. When we arrived we were given a double room on the top floor. The handrails were falling off and had bits missing. When we got to the room, had to find the light switch hiding behind the wardrobe! The room was awful. The wallpaper was peeling off in places, curtains hanging down over a window with gaps in the frame. Somebody had also carved their name into the desk. I nipped to the loo and managed to get locked in the bathroom as the door handle was faulty.
My girlfriend went downstairs to ask if we could have a different room. The receptionist said that we should have told him sooner, my partner explained that she had come down straight away but as we were on the top floor with no lift it may have taken five mins to return to the desk.
He was rude but said there was another room. He showed my partner a twin, when she asked if there was a double available - he scoffed 'why would you need a double!!'. Once he realised we were a gay couple he seemed to make things very awkward. We took the twin room as it seemed cleaner then the hovel on the top floor.
The room was an improvement, however with ripped carpets, faulty lights, tiles falling off in the shower and a view of a brick wall it wasn't the most ideal. However we persevered and made an enjoyable holiday in Dublin.
Avoid this hotel - awful staff with terrible rooms. The features the rooms are advertised as having, simply aren't there. No wi-fi, not flat screen TVs.
