Stauntons on the Green
Ranked #58 of 150 Hotels in Dublin
Reviewed 19 July 2014

Stauntons on the Green is being renovated; however, the price does not justify how much renovation is being done, has been done, nor the condition of the hotel. Hotel walls are thin, cleanliness is below standard, and breakfast leaves much to be desired. They are leaning on location for cost. Could tell that the television rooms had\ve not been vacuumed in at least two days.

We were in room 410 for two nights. Stauntons on the Green is across from St. Stephen's Green and not far from some pubs and some night life. We were charged $278 Euro for two nights; that is $187.50 US per night. Suggest travelers search for other options. If no options are available, ask for a more reasonable rate. Because our room happened to be near a smoking area outside the sun room, I asked to receive a reduced rate. Was told that because we booked through booking.com there was no way to receive a discounted rate. If we had booked directly with the hotel, they could have reduced our rate. Really? The front desk representative said people should not have smoked near the sun room and were supposed to smoke in front of the hotel; therefore, they were not in the designated smoking area and the hotel was not responsible for their decision, therefore the reason for no discount. To us it seemed an excuse for not cutting some cost. We had to put up with smoke in our room even though we were not in a smoking room. It would have been nice if the hotel had reduced our final bill by $50 US at the least. Will not recommend Stauntons on the Green to anyone.

Room Tip: Until Stauntons on the Green finalizes renovation, will not recommend it to anyone.

Dear Teris

We are very sorry to hear that you were disappointed. The smoking concern from people in the garden has not arisen as an issue before and we will endeavour to ensure that it does not again.

We are renovating the property but we are minimising the impact on guests and eager to update and improve the product all the time.

Kind regards

The Team at Stauntons

My family of four stayed 5 nights at Stauntons in June 2014. We had a rather large 2nd floor family room with 3 beds (one bed for each child, always a good thing), fireplace, wardrobe, tub & shower, high ceilings and tall windows. View of the street and St Stephens Green across the road. Dublin was our first stop after arrival from California, and we were jet lagged. It quickly became apparent that one downside of the room was that the shutters and curtains failed to block out all of the light. This is an issue when sun rises at 4am and sets after 10pm: this far north, it is seemingly never dark! There was street noise at all hours, but much less so at night. There are no restaurants or bars in the immediate vicinity, but plenty within 2-3 blocks walking distance (toward Grafton St). Many Dublin attractions are within walking distance of hotel, so it's a great base location. Staff were friendly and helpful with directions and such. Breakfast was decent, with options for full Irish breakfast, porridge, cereal, breads, yogurt and fruit. Bottom line: I would stay here again.

Lovely old hotel across from lovely park and literally on doorstep of dublin city centre.
Family room nice and big but toilet and shower were very poor. Literally a box had been made in the old room and split in half with a toilet on one side and shower on other. Very odd. On other hand reception staff were lovely could buy tour bus tickets from them, breakfast was tasty. But breakfast staff were very miserable I think the lady was polish. Was a not so nice end to our nice stay.

Room Tip: Rooms at front of hotel gave better view than back.

Dear Mysteryshopper20

Thank you for your comments and I am very happy to hear that you enjoyed your stay overall.

We are in the process of upgrading some of the older bathrooms at the moment but apologies if the layout of that particular one was a little unusual.

I will follow up with the breakfast team regards the above mentioned as this is most unusual for them but never acceptable.

Sincerely
The Team at Stauntons

The staff were helpful and prompt. The first floor walls are so thin you can here everything that people around you are doing. I mean everything. If you are a light sleeper don't stay here. Lots of mold in the shower. Entire hotel needs a update.

Room Tip: If you stay, book the top floor only.

Lovely Edwardian town house situated by St Steven's Green. The green is a delightful little park in the centre of town at the end of Grafton Street so location excellent - central but quiet. Service was fine and the room comfortable. Recommended.

Central position and spoilt for choice of fine dining in the area. But don't stay in Room 403. In the new extension, but so much noise during the night and early morning from other bathrooms it was like staying in a water tank. When complained was told they hadn't heard of that before and all rooms were sound proof. In the middle of renovation work as well. Staff very friendly.
