“Charming affordably priced Dublin Hotel”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 July 2012

This is the first place we stayed on our 2 week honeymoon. It is a very charming hotel! We were upgraded upon arrival in celebration of our honeymoon which was a nice treat. The rooms are charming with a canopy bed and cute french looking bathroom. The bar is also very nice and fun. The front desk staff were very helpful setting us up with a hop on hop off bus ticket. The only down side is that it is a 10-15 minute walk to temple bar area. It's kind if out of the way of things a tourist would want to see and their are only 3-4 pubs in local range of the property. However it is close to a Hop-On-Hop-Off bus stop that brought us to Guinness Brewery and Kilmainham Gaol. While in Dublin I would recommend going to the Guinness Brewery, Kilmainham Gaol, The Brazen Head Pub (oldest continuously running pub), Gravediggers Pub (a ways out of the City Center). A disappointment was we were not familiar with how breakfast works. Since it looked like a continental breakfast (little bowls of grains/granola, juices, fruit, pastries) we assumed it was free and were shocked to find out they charge somewhere around 15-20 Euro per person for these little bowls of grains and granola. It's a charming property for the price though and they have a parking lot as well.

Stayed in a spacious rooms with comfortable beds and a great shower. Ate in the main bar during the evening, the food was great just what was needed after a days travel.
We were away early the next morning and so had arranged an early breakfast with no fuss.
All staff were courteous and extremely helpful, which improved our already excellent experience.

We really enjoyed our stay at the Schoolhouse Hotel. It is not right in the heart of the city but you can walk to the bus which takes you to all of the main tourist attractions. The staff were helpful and friendly and our room was quite big, comfortable and well presented. The breakfast was also very nice along with the pub which served very good meals where we ate on a few of the nights. We would highly recommend this hotel and thought it was good value, very comfortable and loved the character!

This was our first hotel out of 8 we were staying in over a 3 week trip. We arrived to the hotel in the morning. They were unable to grant us access to our room as they were fully booked the night before. (Disappointing after a long, overnight flight but no fault of their own.) I freshened up in the bathroom and we went out to explore Dublin. They locked our luggage away for us which was right next to the reception so there was always an eye on the room it was locked in. We found our room to be nice and charming. The bathrooms were a bit small but doable. I give 4/5 on cleanliness. (I am very particular and 5/5 is spotless where I can find nothing in my opinion. So it was still quite clean.) We found the front desk to be very, very warm and friendly and very helpful with any questions we had. We had a very good breakfast both mornings and they accommodated my request for poached eggs and toast only while my husband enjoyed his Irish breakfast. We had drinks in the bar one night and as we were watching other people eat, we had wished we had given the restaurant at the hotel a try as everything look delicious that was being served to those around us (locals included). While this is not in the center of Dublin, we found it walkable to attractions (but we are fit). We also found it very convenient to several of the "Hop On Hop Off tour" stops in case you do not want to walk into the city center (a must if you wanted to cover many main attractions in Dublin over a short amount of time - 2 days in our case.) We fell in love with Ireland and will return. When we do, I will be sure to see if The Schoolhouse has availability.

We selected this hotel as we were seeking a hotel away from the main bar area of Dublin. The hotel was a little further out of town than we had expected, although we were able to comfortably walk to the main tourist attractions and bars. We also found that it was possible to pick up the tour bus near Merrion Square, which reduced the walk when the weather was bad.

The hotel was in a pleasant location near to the canal and not too far from the Aviva Stadium. The hotel exterior was charming and the interior was well decorated. The staff were friendly and welcoming. The breakfast was adequate with a choice of cereals, bread, fruit and pastries or a cooked breakfast made to order. We had hoped to dine at the hotel on the Sunday evening during our stay, however, the restaurant was closed so we did not get the opportunity to dine here.

Overall, we would recommend this hotel to anyone who wants to stay outside the main tourist/bar area (approx 20-30min walk) or who wants to stay somewhere a little bit different.

Room Tip: Request a room on the upper floors rather than the basement
