“2 Star Motel”
Reviewed 20 January 2010

My wife and I are fairly well travelled and usually are okay with a 3 star hotel, especially when we don't plan on spending much time in the room. For example, we always choose the cheap inside cabin when we do cruises. In our opinion, this hotel is a 2 star motel. We were given a "renovated" room, and I can't imagine what a non-renovated room would be like. Our tour company that booked us told us it wasn't worth upgrading to a better hotel, because they said the Regency was a good place to stay. We firmly disagree with their opinion. Here's why...

The front desk was not cordial; the room smelled like smoke; the hallways are narrow, dark and looked dingy; the furniture was stained and scratched; no air control so the room was stuffy and hot; the toiletries were sad; the bed hard and uncomfortable with low quality beddings; no safe; we saw an ant by the coffee fixings; my wife thought she had seen the moving shadow of a mouse one morning; the hotel IS a drive away from the city action; the toilet had stains on the outside upon check-in, let's leave it at that; and the stairway exit door didn't close entirely leaving one to feel unsafe, as anyone could have strolled on in and up to the rooms. I can go on about how the carpet didn't match up to the wall and how the walls are thin, but do you get the point by now?

Do yourself a huge favor and pay extra for a more proper hotel in the city itself. It will be well worth it. I suggest the Hilton Conrad near St. Steven Green. We had a very nice stay there and for a special Priceline rate of $160 USD, it was well worth it.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review of our Hotel.
I am disappointed that you did not enjoy your stay with us. The Regency Hotel is far from a 2 star Motel, having recently undergone a major refurbishment to all public areas and Guest Rooms.
Our hotel has just gone Non Smoking since the 04th January 2010, so this will combat the smell of smoke in any bedrooms. If you had brought the issues with your room to the attention of the Duty Manager I can assure you we would have rectified the situtation as soon as possible.

Had a terrible experience when leaving the hotel, extremely high ramps on hotels entrance scraped the bottom bumper on my car. Managment paid very little attention to my complaint.

We stayed in the hotel for Christmas party.

Hotel is old but some parts are new and looks lovely. I haven't seen leisure centre, but from outside looks good because is new.

Rooms are very nice, beautiful furnitures and comfortable bed. Only view wasn't nice - wall, just like on one of the pictures.

Food for our Christmas party was just delicious and no problem with food for people with coeliac disease - even soup was gluten-free, what was really great. Service also great and very helpful.

Very nice hotel and great time.

We booked the hotel for seven nights and it was an excellent choice. The staff was always helpful, the rooms were clean, the view we had was great, the breakfasts were outstanding, the decor was rich, and everything about the facility was positive. The hotel is midway from the airport to downtown Dublin, but buses run every ten minutes. The ride into downtown is only a few kms., and you can buy a five day bus pass and ride everywhere and anywhere for 20 euros. My wife and I, with our two friends, had a "magical experience" everywhere we went. Those that have written poor reviews of this hotel have brought it on themselves. (Isn't life what you make of it? Booked a last minute break in Dublin at the beginning of December which for some reason was a very busy weekend very little availability at most hotels.

Got this hotel at half the price of other similar hotels so can't really complain too much. The room that we got was very dated and worn, lampshade hanging off, carpet worn through and most of the furniture had seen better days. Despite all these problems the room was clean and we got fresh towel everyday.

The lobby was impressive as was the hotel bar appeared to have been done to a very high standard. We seen the fitness club but never used it so cannot comment.

I was aware that I would need to pay for parking at the hotel but found there to be several "free" spaces at the front of the building which save a few euro.

The hotel in general was ok it is not really convenient for the city centre especially at night as the buses get very confusing and stop about 11pm which is no good if you are on a night out.

I would probably have booked somewhere else if I had a little more time on my hands but it done the job.

Really happy with Hotel. We booked 2 nights Bed & Breakfast & 1 evening meal for 59 Euros. Breakfast Buffet was very good and the evening meal was excellent! 10 euros per night for the car park was a bit steep but with the overall deal being so good we could hardly complain. Will definalely use this hotel again.
