stayed two nights at barrys and couldnt fault it , yes its basic , yes its old and could do with some work on it , but the room we stayed in had clean linen , clean towels every day and a clean and tidy bathroom . staff were friendly and helpful as were the locals. bar is excellent with the best prices in dublin , what do some people want for the price , if your looking for cheap and ideally located accomodation (5 mins from oconnell st ) then give barrys a try , oh and by the way the breakfast isnt bad either

Wow, this has to be one of the most grisly, disgusting hotels on the planet. This place is a disgrace to the lodging industry. We recently had been booked there for three nights though a travel company...big mistake. We tried to check in early but the room was not ready (not a problem) but were given a key to a filthy, trash filled closet in the basement to store our luggage until later. We returned later that afternoon and really got full wind of the odor, a cross between cat pee and an old lady's musty basement. We were on the third floor, no lift or assistance with baggage, not good for my 69 year old Mother. After dragging all of it upstairs the room was gross, toilet seat broken off, chair broken, phone had to be rigged to call out, no towels, no lock on the bathroom door and the carpets, wow the carpets were ether threadbare or covered in black grime. We decided to leave and checked out immediatley! Do not stay here! There are several other options in the area

I want to try and be balanced but its going to be hard. It was not a nice stay, probably about one of the worst hotels I have visited. It felt like visiting a doss house or a hotel for homeless. Its a shames as if the owner could get his butt in gear this could be a reasonable hotel. Cleanliness and maintenance is severely lacking. I only stayed for 1 night here, before this I stayed at DCU university - which although basic was far better than this.

Negative (Too many too mention)
Clean - the main points were cleaned too a poor level and the whole place needed a really deep clean. From the outer carpets too the hotel room. It was just about acceptable on the lower scale - any lower and i would have sacrficed my expedia price and moved elsewhere.
Bath was not clean - shower once I worked out - that turning too cold got me hot water was okay.
Room facilities - yes there are all the tea making facilities etc but yuk need I say more.
The rooms are beyond tired and it needs some massive TLC before it gets to an acceptable basic standard.
Room smelt of beer

Positive
Staff service - non irish lady on the desk and she was very helpful and friendly. Did not really see any other staff too comment on this.
Location - Good Few minutes quick walk to top of main street area
Sheets seemed clean

Overall I know times are hard but surely some time and attention could be spent on this place. The hotel has some great classic features, but its been so badly maintained that its a disgrace.

I was meeting up with my friends and partner a day after they arrive straight couples and myself and partner . They arrvied on the Thursday and myself on the Friday.

Luckly I took a copy of the email which confirmed the price as there was some confusion when it came the final bill.

My Partner who booked in on the Thursday told me that he was refered to by a member of staff as " You must be the Queer one!"

Obviously very narrow minded and hopefully not a reflection in the rest of the staff or management.

We were told also by a local that the owner had spent money doing the Lapdancing club up next door when he should have really spent it on the hotel

Anyhow... net curtains needed a good wash, hotel room was very tired looking and various other items in the hotel needed a good clean and replacement

Its a real shame as this could be a great hotel for the center if only it was brought upto standard.

No internet connection
Prices in bar change depending if its a busy period
Disco down stairs will keep you awake if your near

IF theres no where else you can stay here....but i wouldnt

Will not be staying there again, plenty of nicer hotels and hostels in Dublin nearer to the city centre than here. Very noisy, staff not welcoming, only stairs - no lifts to any floors, the carpets on the stairs looked as it they hadn't been steamed cleaned for years! Bathroom not great, a friend refused to use the ladies toilets by the restaurant/bar as they were 'disgusting'. There was a brown stain on the ceiling of the bedroom and splashes on the wall. Not what you would expect nowadays.
Can't think of anything good to say about the hotel - have stayed in many hotels/hostels in Dublin and this has been the worst. Would've been better off staying at Jacobs Inn Hostel - nearer, much cleaner and friendlier place to stay.

I was very pleased with the service. The Staff was very friendly and helpful. There are no elevators. There is a bar downstairs. O'connell st is a short walk. the room was what I expected for the price.

This is a nice place to stay if you're looking for somewhere central and authentic. The cheap bar is a big plus in this expensive city, and full of locals who will invite you to join their company if you so wish. We stayed on a weekend and didn't find it particularly noisy considering that it incorparates a large pub and a nightclub (the lap dancing place is thankfully quite separate). You might want to ask for a room on the top floor as we did, although there are a few stairs. Great value and comfortable for a city centre bargain.
