“excellent hotel for city break”
Reviewed 7 December 2013

excellent hotel, great location , excellent staff. when we stayed here in december last year, we were delighted with our choice. it was our first time to experience this hotel, but we got a great deal for 2 nites, and it was better than we had hoped for. we loved walking along temple bar area and the windy, decorative streets up to the hotel each evening, it all added to the atmosphere. as for the hotel itself, on arrival we talked to the manager and the receptionist and they were both very attentive and helpful, and naturally friendly. the room itself was small but lovely, great bed and we had perfect sleep both nights. we are going back again in January 2014, and hope the standard is as good. if it is, we will be delighted and would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting Dublin.

Excellent value hotel, the staff were fantastic couldn't be more helpful, I arrived late and needed to check out a little later, that was facilitated no problem. One thing i forgot my toothpaste and the hotel did not have any, might be useful to stock a few bits like that at reception.
Overall a very good experience with friendly helpful staff

This hotel is described as being near the heart of Dublin, Temple Bar. I would dispute this a little as it is on the ‘edge’ of the heart of the area. We stayed here, as part of a Christmas gift to a close friend. The reception/lobby area seemed very small. The room was very nice and clean even though the window view was reminiscent of the set to Fiddler on the roof. Nevertheless, the TV and refreshment facilities all worked well. It was later that night that we discovered that the shower and bath facilities were not quite controllable. Despite following the directions to the letter and using our common sense, nothing seemed to persuade the water going where we wanted to. The water was scalding hot too. Because of the lateness of the hour, we resolved to discuss this with the reception the next day but it meant that there would be no bath or shower facilities the next morning. The breakfast was very poor and it seemed like a one-man-band show, where the waitress was run off her feet, despite there being no less than three people in reception. Eggs weren’t cooked properly, etc and the room lacked atmosphere.
At the end up, the water in the ensuite seemed to mysteriously have corrected itself by the next morning. Overall, our stay was not a pleasant one. Following advice from other reviews, we got a back room which we were advised would silence the ringing of the church bells nearby. However, this was replaced by the incessant whirring of the lift going up and down during the night.
Our troubles were not over yet, as we had to pay almost three times the price for a taxi from the hotel to the station. We brought this up with the management on our return home but of course no action was taken.
I would not stay in this hotel again in my wildest dreams. We were bitterly disappointed and it wasn’t cheap. I am not surprised so many people sleep on the streets of Dublin, as their hotels are quite honestly outrageous.

We enjoyed this hotel very much as the staff were friendly & helpful. Great location, close to main streets, buses and Temple Bar. Temple Bar is an area with cafes and pubs and cultural aspect. It is a 4 min walk to Temple Bar. Reception staff are extremely helpful & will book things for you, ie: hop on-hop-off bus, cheaper than you get by buying a ticket on the bus. We had no problem finding the hotel and it is located off a Main Street and is very quiet. The rooms are spacious, clean, comfy and have a huge king size bed with cosy doona & they have free wifi. I would highly recommend this hotel and would definitely stay here again, honestly we loved it!

I was recommended the George after my booking went astray in another establishment near by. Feeling uneasy we went anyway.

When we got there we were greeted by Ruth the Receptionist who had a big smile on her face and all panic went out the window.

She sorted out our room for us and even at the rate the other establishment was charging. We got to our room and it was gorgeous.

The room was spotless as was the bathroom. In the room was the usual tea and coffee but the George even has free lollipops and water!

We didn't have the breakfast but we came back for some lunch before having to head home and it was to die for..

I would 100% stay here again!

We really enjoyed our stay in GFHH and recommend this hotel without any restriction to visit Dublin. The reception staff was always ready to help or answer questions. The room was clean, large enough for two people and quiet. We got a good breakfast every morning. We have no doubts about getting back there next time we go to Dublin.

We booked for one night direct with the hotel and got a good rate and a free bottle of very drinkable wine- not the cheap plonk I expected to get for the price paid.
A clean comfortable room, good quality bed and tv, and a terrific shower all in a great location very close to the Temple Bar action but not stuck in the middle of it.
Everything you need for a city break.

Room Tip: Check your fire exit in case of emergency. They store laundry on one of them....
