Owner description: Christ Church Cathedral is one of Dublin's oldest buildings, a leading visitor attraction and a place of pilgrimage for almost 1,000 years. Famous for its breathtaking beauty, magnificent architectural features and wonderful floor tiles, Christ Church is also popular as a venue and is host to many high profile concerts throughout the year. It is home to the tomb of Strongbow, leader of the Normans, who captured Dublin in 1170. The Medieval Crypt, one of the largest in Britain and Ireland, extends under the entire Cathedral and contains The Mummified cat and rat, trapped in the organ in the 1860s. Guided tours, including the belfry, available up to five times a day Monday to Saturday.

“Tour of Christchurch Cathedral in Dublin, Ireland”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

I'm not really a "tour" person. I don't like gathering with crowds. But I walked into Christchurch Cathedral and the tour was just beginning, and I thought it was serendipitous. I loved the tour. It wasn't too long (45 minutes), had just the right amount of information, and ended with ringing the bells in the belfry! Highly recommend.

Thanks for your review - glad you decided to throw caution to the wind and take the tour ;-) - it really is the best way to experience the cathedral, and offers access to areas like the belfry which aren't open for general admission.

“Educational day with Grandchildren”
Reviewed 2 August 2014

had a great day exploring this cathedral with family. although I had been there many times before(in my youth) I still love the views, Gothic style, history of the building. Family of 4 fees is €15, you pay extra for additional person, (how many are a family) two grandparents, daughter, two children? €19.50 a little steep. discount for seniors. tour guide extra, and it would be preferred to have a guide to explain the history, even though leaflets are free. no parking, so best go on foot, or public transport. very busy with tourists. cafe a bit poor and very dark area in the crypt.
good place on the tourist trail.

“Mildly offended, still interesting”
Reviewed 31 July 2014 via mobile

We received tickets as part if the Viking museum connected to the Christ Church. The first tour brings you right over. If you have some kind of reason to be there (pilgrimage, tv shows like Vikings or Tudors, etc.) it becomes more impressive. In the crypts there's a video playing that gives you the whole history of the site and the relics stored there. I suggest you find this first to appreciate what they are.
What I thought was strange is the merchants area with a cafe in the crypts. I understand it's a tourist spot. The fact that Jesus himself openly shamed the market inside a church I would have hoped they would have held it in another location.
Still, it is a lovely church worth seeing.

Thanks for your review. Glad you enjoyed your visit to the cathedral. Sorry you were offended by our crypt cafe and gift shop but they are both part of our efforts to keep the building going as a church (without endeavors such as these the building would have become a museum long ago). The crypt itself is not a sacred space and the trade taking place there is very honest, unlike the money lenders and crooks extorting those in the temple in Jesus' day.
