Owner description: Dublin Castle was for 700 years the seat of British power in Ireland. Today you can still view the remains of the 13th century structure as part of the guided tour. The present Dublin Castle dates from the mid 1700's and today is used by the Irish Governemnt for state events such as the inauguration of the Irish President and state banquets for visiting dignatories. Amongst the highlights are the Ladies Drawing Room, the Throne Room and St. Patricks Hall.

“Dublin Castle is well worth visiting”
Reviewed 17 October 2013

We visited Dublin Castle last Saturday and went on the guided tour (it cost 4.50 euro) which was excellent value, as our guide was a real historian well able to tell the history and answer questions asked and he also brought humour to the tour. We would recommend it if you visit Dublin.

“Amazing architecture”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

The architecture of Dublin Castle is amazing. As we toured from one room to the next, our guide explained the importance of every room, and who held residence there at one time or another. The tour lasts about an hour, and is a must see if visiting Dublin.

“Interesting & Good Value”
Reviewed 14 October 2013

Nice to see some history and old buildings, recommend a 2 -3 hour visit.

I'd recommend going on one of the tours (included in price). It's not too long and is very informative. Don't forget to go to the gardens.

Very good value for money.

“The Essential Historical Significance of Dublin Castle”
Reviewed 11 October 2013

Visually you must go back in history to the 'glory days' of the British Empire as you step into the courtyard of Dublin Castle. Before the English left Ireland in 1921 and for more than 500 years previously, it was the centre of English power in Ireland and the 'nerve centre' of their attempt to impose military and civil jurisdiction and domination over Ireland. The State Apartments, as they are now called, are a set of highly ornate ceremonial rooms used for important social and diplomatic occasions and were the centre of the Anglo-Irish imperial administration. The rooms have been beautifully restored and resonate with history and majesty. It is an important opportunity to further understand the background to the continuous turbulent events in Irish history culminating in the Easter Rising or Rebellion against the English Administration in 1916. Don't forget to also visit and view the wonderful and unique Chinese and Islamic artefacts and treasures in the Chester Beatty Library contained within the Castle grounds.

“Well preserved castle”
Reviewed 10 October 2013 via mobile

Historic castle that is still in use. The rooms are well preserved and used for galleries now. The exterior is impressive as well. Chapel is closed for renovations right now and basement requires guided tour. U will c plenty in the castle itself to give u a feel of what it was like back then.

Enjoy.
