Great hostel and would stay here again. The communal areas such as the bar and cafe are fantastic. We stayed in a 4 person private room with ensuite bathroom, all of which was clean and comfortable. The only reason the hostel isn't getting 5 stars is down to the location which isn't very central and not in the nicest of areas, although it seems to have undergone a lot of regeneration recently. The hostel itself is definitely worth 5 stars.

I liked my stay at The Generator Dublin, the hostel is recent and was very well decorated and clean. There is a light and 2 power outlet next to each bed which is very useful. The atmosphere is great and the bar of the hostel is a good place to meet fellow travelers. Walking tours, biking tours and pub crawls depart from the hostel lobby.

The hostel is well situated in a gentrifying neighborhood. It is very easy to find your way around the city.

Note however that there is no kitchen. There are also only 2 washing machine for the entire hostel so be prepare to wait if you'd like to clean clothes.

Good location in a rather quiet part of the city but close to the trams and several bus stops (one of them the airport express bus stop, which is very convenient) and the river so it's easy to find your way around the city. There are several cafes and shops nearby. The food in the hostel is good and they give hot water for free if you ask, but no free tea or coffee. Wifi signal is best on the ground floor, but doesn't work too well upstairs. We stayed in one room on the second floor for almost a week and then in another room on the ground floor for a night. The former was spacious and well-aired; the latter much smaller and very hot because the window in it wouldn't open more than just a crack. The staff was helpful and polite.

Room Tip: The rooms upstairs seem to be more well-aired but have poorer wifi reception.

As a local looking for a quick bite we stumbled into Generator one sunday during a vintage market and were very impressed with the fare on offer. Very reasonably priced lunch dishes that were both creatively presented and very tasty. We will be back to try some more. Smithfield area seems to be on the up again with numerous new eateries and shops and this place is a great addition. Two good pubs across the road in Oscar's and the Cobblestone (try the guinnesss and the trad music) and this modern funky hostel bringing in young travellers from around the globe. Bar prices and deals are reasonable too. City centre is a quick walk or cheap taxi ride away but with Ryan's, dice bar, mulligans and anseo only minutes away who needs the city centre!

We only needed a nights stay in Dublin and this worked out very well. We got a private room for 4 which was clean and quiet. The lobby/cafe area is nicely done and the staff were very helpful with our luggage. It's a 10-15m walk into the main part of town so not bad at all really. Would recommend if it's a hostel type place your looking for
