Owner description: The George is not just any bar or any gay bar. It is the first port of call for young gay people in Ireland, it is the venue where gay and straight people mix together and where international visitors stop to check out the gay scene in Ireland. The George has been the lynchpin that holds Dublin's gay scene together. Having been around for 30 years it has been a home to the development of the social evolution of gay Ireland. "A mix of styles with a sprinkling of fairy dust thrown in", The George features two bar areas; the front bar affectionately known as ‘Bridies' after one of the bar's longest serving staff members; with its low lighting and leather clad barstools is the perfect spot for a quiet drink and a chat. The main club venue has been graced by the presence of some of the hottest international acts including Alexandra Burke, Daniel Johnson, The Saturdays and Bananarama. It is also where you can see some of the best weekly performances in the city Space'N'Veda, Davina's House-Party and featuring International Cabaret Artiste Extraordinaire TM and former child-star Shirley Temple Bar at Sunday night Bingo!

Was our first time here over the weekend. It was a Saturday night so we expected it to be packed and it was. Extremely quick service from the bar staff. Thought the different gay celeb photos were cute but could definitely use a wee face lift. Only had one problem coming out of the toilet, some woman attempted to start me for no reason but this is certainly not the venues fault. Overall had fun, people were friendly and we'd go back again!

The George is not a glamurous club, full of strobe lights and people posing. No. The George is a club for genuine fun. Sit around, grab a pint and listen to some good music if your friends and the people you meet there. I've been there a lot of times and one of my favorite is the Sunday Bingo with Shirley Temple Bar. It's worth seeing it and the show they put on. Very friendly staff.

For starters, the entertainment (some drag performance) was mediocre, to say the least.
The worst part was when about an hour after my friend and I arrived (and paid for entrance and drinks!) the bouncer decided "that's enough" for us, because "complaints have been made" against us. Needless to say, he refused to say what complaints, especially since we made no type of contact with anyone and just watched the show quietly. He then "politely" told us to leave at that moment.
We won't be coming back, and hopefully you'll save yourself the time and embarrassment. Pick any other pub on the Temple bar streets and probably won't regret it.

First visit to Dublin, second visit in two days to The George, caught the end of Karaoke and what really made it a great night for me were the people. The DJ was great, the two drag queens hosting the karaoke were funny without being crass and the clientele were all having a great CRAIC!
