My husband and I signed up to meet with our ambassador at 5pm on the day we arrived in Dublin. Our flight got in at 7:30am and it was a long day but that's how you beat the jet lag, you just gotta keep going. It turned out our ambassador was Simon O'Connor, one of the originators of the program. He gave us 3 options to chose between, tea at a posh hotel, coffee at a cafe, or pint at a pub, and we went with pint. On the walk over, he immediately started to giving us the native's perspective on Dublin pointing on what bars to avoid (as "too fratty") and where we could get a good meal (explore the side street surrounding the Grafton St. area). When we got to the pub, he spent about an hour chatting with us, providing some good ideas on what to do while in town, and just being generally Irish in the best possible way. In my opinion, the most enjoyable aspects of Ireland have always been the countryside (make sure you get out of Dublin) and the people and spending time with Simon gave us that awesome dose of Irish people time. Overall, a great way to start a trip in Ireland.

We met Frances within 4 hours of our arrival in Dublin and walked to Porterhouse pub on Grafton street where she shared her extensive knowledge of the area with us as we were treated to a wonderful pint of Irelands best! II read of this free ambassador service started by Simon O Conner on Trip Advisor and highly recommend this welcoming free service to first time visitors!

We met our ambassador this afternoon, only 4 hours after arriving in Dublin. She took us for tea at the Merrion Hotel and spent 2 hours chatting with us. We learned so much about Ireland in such a short period of time. I would encourage anyone to sign up for this free service.

I learned of this program through a Trip Advisor Forum on Dublin and signed up right away. This is a great way to get information about sites and attractions in the city, and meet a local and share a nice visit. Our guide was Simon, who incidentally, started the program with some colleagues. He was most hospitable, despite a snafu with meeting times, and we had a very nice visit with him. As we had kind of researched some things we already wanted to do in Dubin, much of our visit was more about life in Ireland and Dublin. Some of the most rewarding travel experiences are often the people you meet along the way and the conversations you have...it reminds you that people are people no matter where they live. I would highly suggest this great program!

This is a fantastic opportunity especially for first timers to Ireland! Great for solo travelers. You simply go to their website, sign up for a date and time, what kinds of things you are interested in, and show up! We were a group of 5 friends who arrived to meet "our local" Derry.. After an introduction, you are given a choice which pub you will visit accompanied by your "local". Great conversation and discussion, accompanied by a pint "included". Afterwards our local Derry walked us to our evenings start in Temple Bar. Absolutely no cost and no tips accepted. Can't say enough about this program....wish it was world wide! Brilliant introduction to Ireland!
