We visited the house and gardens on Saturday, 5th July. The house and gardens are a credit to the Office of Public Works. We strolled through the gardens and then did the tour of the house. Our guide, Don, was excellent. He imparted the history and use of the house in a light hearted manner and answered any questions.
Just one criticism - the cafe was closed and the staff did not seem to know why.

“Beautiful house and gardens, manic restaurant!!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 3 July 2014

Visited here on the 1st July. Such a beautiful house and gardens. The tours is on every hour in the quarter past (11.15, 12.15 etc). It may not be open if being used so would be wise to check the website beforehand. The tour is very informative and interesting, made all the better by being free of charge.
The staff in the house are lovely, so helpful and friendly. Can't take the buggy into the house as there are stairs but no lift, bit disappointing but it was fine and they mind the buggy at reception.
Found the restaurant a different story. Found it hard to find a menu. Have an 18 month old, order chicken goujons and chips for her and was told it was on the menu but never served so they don't have it, tried to order fish fingers for her and the same story, on menu never cooked or served. Just got chips for her in the end. My mum order brushetta, which is made with mozzarella but they had none of that either so it was made with cheddar. I ordered a 99 ice cream, no flakes!! The staff look a bit frazzled and under pressure and service is slow. But don't let it put you off....you can always bring a picnic.

“Tranquility in the city”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 31 May 2014 via mobile

We find Farmleigh a most beautiful and tranquil place to drop in, especially on early - ish mornings. When the market or other events are on, is still a great place to be - because of these. But the energy is almost magical, the walk along the pond expecially.

“Nice but restaurant a letdown”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 May 2014 via mobile

The house itself is lovely. The outside reminds you of earlier times when coaches arrived with guests ready for an entertaining night. The tours inside the house are free and the decor is fabulous. It lasts about half an hour. The tour guide was full of info, however I felt the tour was quite short and disappointed you could only see the ground floor. However it is free and the house is still in use for figure heads to stay when in Ireland so understandably they don't let you have the run of the place. Lots of free parking and grounds behind the house as well as the garden and the gallery to which they have ongoing exhibitions. We stopped into the Boathouse Restaurant for some tea and cake. Have to say it was really bad. The staff serving were all over the place, the cakes were dry and had obviously not been baked that day and were there a couple of days. The tea and coffee we got were lukewarm also. Not sufficient at all for the only restaurant there, very disappointed. Suggest bring a picnic and buy an ice cream at the kiosk. I would have given the visit more stars otherwise. All in all a good day out especially on a sunny day as they have music and workshops on different days.
