thank you Keith,

it is always wonderful to receive the thumbs up. We strive to create an authentic, genuine artisan environment. Our bakery, just downstairs, works night and day to deliver a great selection of healthy treats. We have just loaded a video on our bakers' work in our website, if you like to enjoy it...
Watch out for our autumn calendar of seasonal specialty, we are starting next weekend with "Summer berries and Honey buzz". We hope we will surprise you again.

Best regards

“Best pastries”
Reviewed 24 August 2014 via mobile

I had been anxious to visit for ages but rarely in Dublin. What a selection of pastries and breads.... Fabulous. Very good coffee and very friendly service. I thought it was great value. Staying in Dublin hotel on room only rate? Worth heading this direction for breakfast.

Dear Customer,
thank you for your great review. Nothing makes us happier that getting this positive energy back from our customers..... small family businesses like ours have to "make choices" . We invest very little in marketing, and an awful lot in our skilled labour and ingredients quality. Ten, among pastry chefs and master bakers, work night and day in the bakery downstairs. If you visit our website, you will find our new video, featuring their skillful art, for you to enjoy.
We will hopefully see you back in, Limerick is not too far to pop over for a treat !
With best regards.

“REAL Italian café”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

Amidst the explosion of coffee culture in Dublin, it's easy to forget that the majority of the coffee served up by the hundreds of 'baristas' is of pretty low quality. I dropped into Il Valentino while passing recently and was again reminded of what an exception to the rule this place really is. The coffee is of the highest quality - strong and robust without being bitter - AND is served in a correctly sized china cup. I had a cappuccino that was typical of the sized cup you would get in Italy for the same beverage, not some ludicrously oversized soup bowl posing as a cup, filled with some enough weak milky liquid to give you an upset stomach for the rest of the day.

Oh, and I also had perhaps the best flaky pastry apple tart I've ever tasted…..

Wonderful place - the real deal

Ah, yes ! Dear Jazzer,
do we like that "REAL" in capital letters. If we could show our customers how many times we "make choices", on quality of ingredients, on skilled labour, on avoiding additives that would make our business easier and faster. And yet, that's not why we started this. And we remain loyal to our choice of hand-slit vanilla pods (instead of chemical essences), calcium propionate free high quality flours, 100% butter instead of margarine.... Our coffee blend, well, it's the same one used at the Fenice theatre in Venice and the most historic cafe' Quadri. Round and rich but with minimal acidity and no bitterness.
If you like apples, watch out our calendar of events for the autumn and winter. We have a full month dedicated to apples specialties. A triumph and a fest for the eyes !
If you visit our website, you will be able to enjoy a new video, dedicated to the art of our bakers and pastry chefs.
Thanking you for your great review, hoping to see you soon again.

“Lovely coffee, fantastic cakes & breads”
Reviewed 5 August 2014 via mobile

Really good espresso macchiato here

Their olive bread to takeaway is wonderful, literally packed with tasty olives. Sourdough is lovely too.

Big selection of tempting cakes & slices. I was surprised the Cannoli were pre-filled, when we were lucky enough to have the chance to taste them in Sicily they always made them up fresh. Kept the shell nice and crispy that way - even so it still was very good!

Quality sandwiches, not cheap but decent value for the good ingredients.

We've been back, and will return again!

Dear customer form the Eternal city,
thank you for your great review. It is always a pleasure to hear feedback from the varied European clientele that animates the area. Our cannoli are made fresh, every day, with locally (and wonderfully) produced ricotta in a farm from Cork. The chocolate lining inside guarantees the "insulation" so to speak form the pastry shell.
We are preparing a special surprise for the cannoli fans this autumn.... stay tuned !

Arrivederci a presto.
