“The once majestic Jurys is losing its prestige”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 11 November 2013

Stayed here for one night while attending a concert in The Point. It was the weekend of The Ireland V Samoa rugby game at Lansdowne Road, so it was quite busy, but not uncomfortably so. This is the former Jury’s Ballsbridge Hotel, once one of the most prestigious hotels in Dublin. Unfortunately it has lost its prestige and is beginning to look really shabby.

The reception is big, open and airy and quite impressive when you walk into it. Staff at the reception was very friendly and helpful and greeted me with a smile. The bar was nice and bright and a comfortable place to drink. Breakfast in bed the next morning only cost €5 and the food was plentiful and tasty.

The room itself, while old and dated, was clean and of adequate size. While the decor does look dated, the room was clean. The bathroom was stuck in stasis and hadn’t been updated since the hotel was built. Cracked tiles, hair dryer that was partly removed, creaky taps and old shower (water pressure was great though).

The biggest problem was one we didn’t discover until the next morning. This was early November and it was quite cold outside, however the room was like a furnace as the sun was beating in through the window and there was no air con. The radiator in the room was off and the window was open, well it was slightly open as this is as far as it would go. I shudder to think how hot the rooms get in summer with no air con.

The location of the hotel is perfect, however over the years, so many better hotels have popped up around Dublin city centre offering better rooms at similar or better value.

Considering we were visiting Dublin for St Paddys day it was great value for money and very clean! Nothing bad to say about our stay here for 4 days - Large rooms, very spacious. A big hotel just minutes away from the aviva stadium but a 10 minute bus/train journey from the city centre or about 25 minute walk which made travelling to the parade a bit longer on st paddys day. About 50 minute bus journey from the airport but the bus drops you outside of the hotel which is very convenient.

My 2 friends & I visited Dublin for a girly weekend & staying at this hotel was perfect for us. The Manager, Donan greeted us within 15 minutes of arriving & he ensured that we had a wonderful stay there on in. The reception staff were always helpful & courteous & even arranged for our 3 rooms to be on the same floor which was lovely. The buffet breakfast was lovely too & ample to carry us through to dinner time.

I would defienately stay here again & recommend it to my friends.

I stayed at the Ballsbridge for three nights when I was running the 2013 Dublin Marathon. We picked it because it was conveniently located for the Expo and for the race start and finish, and also a reasonably short bus/taxi ride from city centre. It's a very big and impersonal hotel, I get the feeling it's probably used more by business travellers and those going to Lansdowne Road rather than holidaymakers. Contrary to some of the other reviewers on here, I thought the hotel facilities were fine - I had a big room, that was cleaned daily to a decent standard, and I thought their breakfast was perfectly fine, even on the morning when the entire hotel descended at 6.30am pre-marathon.

My only real complaint was that service in the pub restaurant attached to the hotel - The Dubliner - was dreadful the night before the marathon. I think a lot of the guests had decided to eat in the hotel the night before the race as it would be easier, and they didn't have nearly enough staff on to cope with demand. We waited ages for food, and then they closed the kitchen way earlier than the advertised time because they obviously weren't staffed up to meet demand, so we had to beg to get a meal for a friend whose flight was delayed.

I also begrudge paying the sort of high daily wifi rate demanded by this hotel.

But if you're going for a brief trip and you're not looking for anything too luxurious, and the location of the hotel suits your purposes, I thought the Ballsbridge was fine, just eat somewhere nearby rather than in the hotel in the evening.

It's also worth noting that we got a much cheaper rate by booking the hotel as a package deal with our British Airways Flight, than by booking directly with the hotel or through other booking services.

This is the first bad review i have made about a hotel. We recently booked for one night in order to attend a funeral and make life easy however the dismally lit and appallingly appointed room made the following day at the funeral seem cheerful in comparison. From the moment we opened the room door we knew by the smell that the carpets and curtains were grimy and old and it was altogether a thoroughly depressing experience. There was no soap in the small soap dispenser by the sink which made it necessary to lean over the bath to wash your hands with blue liquid carbolic smelling soap which was dire. That evening we turned on the old tube TV which only produced a loud buzzing sound. When we were going out that evening we reported it to reception and despite this it still had the same worrying buzz and no sign of life so we unplugged it for safety. The iron did not work the following morning when i went to freshen my outfit. I have never stayed in such an appalling room before this and shall not be returning. The management obviously believes that the location and convenient Aircoach bus stop nearby make up for the dreadful quality.

Upon arrival the reception staff was unpleasant, but having worked in customer service I wrote it off to a bad day and began the trek to our room. It was nearly impossible to find, but once we found our way through the hallways FULL of trash and dirty laundry (it was evening, long past when I would expect housekeeping to be complete for the day) we arrived in our dark, not particularly clean room with a significantly leaking faucet. Because it was evening and we were tired and didn't want to go out and look for somewhere to eat we ate at the hotel. The service was dismal, but it was the highlight of our experience. My food was cold and flavorless, my sisters had, shall we say, foreign objects, in it. She shared her displeasure with the bar manager who summoned the hotel manager. He asked how the rest of our stay was so I shared with him the condition of our room. We were quickly upgraded to a larger (if not a whole lot cleaner or more comfortable) room and sent chocolates and wine. Unfortunately the damage of initial poor service, uncomfortable, not very clean room and terrible restaurant was already done. We would not return to this hotel, nor would we recommend it to others. Their efforts to address the situation seemed genuine, but it was just not a good property.

My wife and i stayed in the Ballsbridge hotel for two night 26th&27th oct ,
The receptionists were very helpful and had all information we wanted for getting about the area, We were talking to the guest relations manager , A very helpful man ,The bar is attached to the hotel and pulls a great pint of Guinness, The bar food was lovely and we found the staff helpful . Our room was lovey , Very clean and cosy, just the right temperature , getting into the town from the hotel is easy , Busses from across the road and there are a good supply of taxis .The hotel restaurant has a fine menu and affordable... All together i would recommend this hotel to anyone thinking of staying in Dublin.. We have stayed in hotels in the centre of Dublin but in Ballsbridge i found that there is little noise at night which meant that i got two good nights sleep

Room Tip: The towers side of the hotel is superb Bedroom suites are very comfortable Well aired rooms
