Displays are very informative throughout. The museum is set in a very nice period building. Although there is not much there in terms of things to see, the museum does boast some great pieces found in Ireland, it is no British Museum or Louvre so do not expect that. The museum is free, which was a bonus. If you are interested in Irish History then I thoroughly recommend it.

“We learned things”

It was good to go round and get a little more of a sense of Irish history. Being English we knew nothing about Brian Boru or the Battle of Clontarf beforehand - but now we do!

“Great exhibits, a little disorganized”
Reviewed 14 July 2014

I really enjoyed this Museum. I wanted to give it a 5 star rating because the Viking portion was really interesting. As were the Celtic.. Egyptian... Victorian... and all the other bits. And that is the only downside - the building (which is gorgeous) is not overly large and doesn't lend itself to separations between exhibits which meant that the journey they take you on in one historical era bleeds a little jarringly into another time period altogether, and then jumps back. You can look at that two ways: they have a lot of great stuff to show you so think of it like your Grandmother's curio cabinet... there is a lot of stuff crammed in and its from a lifetime of collecting. OR, they have a lot of great stuff to show you and they could do a better job of creatively displaying them while still maintaining coherence. That said... don't miss it, it is a wonderful Museum. even with the weird layout.

“Do not miss it!”
Reviewed 13 July 2014

Better than I expected.. Displays are informative and explain the history of ancient and medieval Ireland, and helps expand one's sense of the history of the region. The craftsmanship of many of the objects on display are more than impressive. I found them dazzling in the fineness of workmanship. Don't look for painting here. that's not what this museum treasures. Here you will find gold, silver and bronze works of art resplendent with fine decoration, incised patterns. The vitrines are well lighted. Highly recommend. I gained a new respected for the barbarian and Celtic art of the early Middle Ages. Visited in 2009 or 2010, but thinking of it now as I am making suggestions to my niece on what to see on her upcoming visit to the Emerald Isle.

The museum was FREE, and had a really interesting collection of artifacts from all periods of Irish history. We learned a lot.
