I went here recently for a couple of beers with a few friends. Not sure why as I heard it was expensive. This place is the most expensive bar I've seen in Dublin so don't waste your money or give them the satisfaction of paying for their astronomical prices. Tourists, also don't fall into the trap, there are other places near by that are way better and not a rip off!!

Overall I have to say the live music is amazing. But friendliness and respect are words rarely used in the establishment. After being there a few times and living in Ireland for over a year, I really started to doubt the friendliness of Irish people after visiting the venue. Pulling back guests rudely on the arms, who have no intention of causing troble and didn't try to get in illegally, is disrespectful. Especially when the rude treatment leaves marks on the arms... Even asking responsible people for a reason about the sudden change of mind, the decision that you cannot go in anymore, seems to be a personal attack and this quesion will never be answered. 'Because he said so...' No explanation was given that could have improved the whole situation and encouraged the understaning among the guests. I was never treated this disrespectful and unwelcome in over 12 months in the country. I never felt like a stupid, inferior human being before, who has to accept random decisons without quesioning them.
In general I cannot recommend the Oliver St John Gogarty's Pub. Prices are too high and are not justified when you think about the quality of service and the treatment you get.

Went here recently with family home from Oz. The drinks are priced at crazy expensive prices. Its extortion how much they are. The staff were friendly and quick to look after the customers. There was music blaring which made it difficult to chat. We moved to the tables outside for food. Our mistake! The food was dry, tasteless and over cooked. No body enjoyed the food and we had ordered a wide variety of food.

Went in at lunchtime and it was pretty busy but managed to find a table downstairs for a drink and something to eat. Waitress came over to serve us as we sat down and although the prices weren't cheap they were reasonable. Food was nice and good size portions. Live music gave the place a great atmosphere and straw hats (free of charge) were handed out to everyone.

It is full of tourists and no locals but it is well worth a visit. Would go back if in the area again.

Had family day out here in May 2014. First the good points - excellent atmosphere and brilliant musicians. Bad points - extremely overpriced. Bar is aimed at tourists and as an Irish person I was ashamed to think that anywhere would inflate their prices to take advantage of this. Food is terrible, again overpriced. Staff are not very pleasant. Floor staff act like their being put out by having to serve you. Bar staff very slow. Bar was packed but staff were more interested in having their own conversations. Waited 40 mins for a Black Russian to be made (not the most elaborate cocktail to make up!!). The bar shouldn't put cocktail menus on the table if their not willing to serve them. Toilets were absolutely filthy. We got there about 12 midday when the bar wasn't opened long. However the bins in the ladies were over flowing, toilet paper all over the floor and the sinks were filthy.. With all the money they make across the bar they should really think about up-grading the facilities. Not an authentic Irish bar by any standards, anyone visiting should think about re-mortgaging their house to pay for the drinks!!! Tips for tourists - yes the music in great but there are plenty other great pubs to visit in Dublin without being ripped off.
