Recently stayed at the Grand Canal hotel - we were looking for somewhere close to the Bord Gais Energy Theatre.
We went to see the Lion King.
The hotel is well located - close to pretty much everywhere. Aprox ten minute walk to Stephen Green and about 5 mins walk away from the Grand Canal. If you happen to be going to watch a game at the Aviva - your about 10 mins away from that as well.
In terms of location - perfect.
The parking is tight - you nearly need to get out the sun roof. here is plenty of street parking though, that is free from 18:00 Fri for the whole weekend.
At check in we were told that we were upgraded to an Executive suite. In truth I wouldnt like to see the normal bedrooms as the executive suites are a normal room size - it does come with a smart TV which has access to the internet. That really is the only bonus I see to the room.
The room was tidy and clean which is a must. The food in the resturant was good and the atmoshere in the bar was great.
Wasn't that impressed with the breakfast the following day. Bufft style which is fine - but it was extremely greasy, very unlike me I had t leave it.
All in all - probably would go back.
Certainly recomend it, the location is key.

Hello
Thank you for your posting. I am glad you enjoyed your stay with us.
All our rooms are recently refurbished and upgraded to a similar standard, but the executive rooms do have a few little extras such as in room safes, robes, complementary water and pillow chocolates. We are centrally located and the car park is very handy, as well as the on street parking on the weekends.
Many thanks again for the comments and hope you will have the opportunity of staying again.
Kind regards

Have recently returned from a 3 night break at this hotel with my partner & 2 other couples.

Good points:-
Nice large clean & comfortable rooms
No noise from inside the hotel
Efficient friendly staff
Easy check in / check out
5 minutes to the Dart
5 minutes to bus stops
15-20 minute pleasant walk into town

Negative points -
The room was soooo hot. The window could be left open, but being on the front meant a lot of noise from people walking past or early morning traffic.
The breakfast was plentiful but poor quality. We only ate there once.
Some people may not enjoy 20 minute walk into town.

Overall a good choice. Would be happy to stay again.

Room Tip: If you need to open a window because of the heat, do not get a room over looking the front

Nice clean hotel, good breakfast, the attached bar/lounge/Restaraunt was good. The staff was most helpful including showing us the best spots on the map to get the hop on hop off and exchanging currency. Closer than it looks to downtown- less than a mile walk to Trinity College.

The Grand Canal Hotel is a 20 minute walk to downtown Dublin, 15 minutes to Trinity College. Wonderful sunny clean room. Tea pot to boil water and make instant decaf and coffee along with Irish Breakfast Tea. Little sweet crackers and chocolate on your pillow. Big fluffy terry cloth robes, Hair dryer is hard wired to the wall; it works. Good security; need key card to get in on fire stairwells. The hotel staff were friendly and very helpful; I would give them a 10 out of 10 score. Nice pub attached downstairs. Food in the attached restaurant could be better, a little on the high calorie side. Hotel is a very short walk to the School House Bar; great food and atmosphere. We ran into a team of Rugby players on their way to Dublin and they wanted us to go with them on the bus!

I stayed with a colleague at the Grand Canal Hotel in Dublin when attending a conference at the CCD. We looked on-line for hotels with a good price yet conveniently located to go to the CCD. We loved the place and would go back to the same hotel if we return to Dublin.

Location:
- Walking distance from the CCD (a nice walk along the canal)
- Also a nice walk to the city center for dinners (we did use a cab to come back in two ocasions, with the cost under 10 euros)
- The hotel is located in a residential area. We had a street facing room and we didn't hear anything at night, so sleeping was easy. Colleagus staying close to the center report much noise from pubs and drunken people.

Room:
- Good size room for two people
- We slept very well in the beeds, there are several pillows per bed so each sleeper will probably find a good combination
- Very good shower
- Good amenities
- It is possible to open the windows if you want fresh air in (don't take that for granted in hotels) yet they are double-glass windows to block any noise from the street

Restaurant:
- We didn't have breakfast at the hotel but ate one night at the resturant downstairs. We got there 5 minutes before the kitchen closed yet they cooked dinner for us. It has a great atmosphere and we enjoyed the food. Good prices.

Service:
- Everybody at the desk was great even finding us some big mugs to have our tea in the room! (the coffee/tea maker comes with two coffee-size cups).

Didn't get to use the gym but the wifi was great.

Absolutely recommended for those going to the conference center. The walk each day along the grand canal dock was fastastic and I recommend Herbstreet for one of the best brunchs in Dublin! (see reviews in this site).

We booked a stay in the hotel for Friday 31st May 2013 to go to Lion King in Bord Gais Energy Theatre. While there is a deal available for tickets and meals, we ( wife and I ) didn't avail of it and booked Hotel and Theatre tickets seperately. The Hotel is in an excellent location and only a short walk to the Theatre. Though we were coming into Dublin from a Northerly direction we found the Hotel very easy to get to. The big plus also was that there is free underground, secure parking. The staff at reception were very friendly and competent. Our room on the 5th floor was an executive double room, very spacious, clean and comfortable. We availed of the evening early bird meal which was tasty and very reasonably priced. The restaurant stafff were young, friendly and capable. We had a noise free sleep and a very adequate "Irish breakfast" in the morning. We found this a very enjoyable stay and would have no problem recommending the Hotel to friends or family.

I found the room clean and tidy, free internet , tea / coffee facilities.
The food in the bar at evening time is average, I would eat elsewhere next time, but the breakfast in the dining room is spot on.
The dining area in the Bar needs to get a good cleaning, and maybe renew some of the furniture.
The staff are excellent, very friendly and helfull.
This is one of the few city centre hotels that has a secure car park.
Because of the car parking facility and the brilliant staff, I wll stay here again.

Room Tip: I stayed on the 3rd floor facing the busy street, but I stll got a great nights sleep, as the window...
