“clean and helpful at the grand canal”
Reviewed 21 September 2006

First trip to Europe and was a little worried about hotel conditions. No problems here. The Grand Canal in Dublin was a very pleasent surprise. The rooms are very clean and secure. The staff was most helpful in giving directions and booking trips. I would recommend this hotel for anyone unless they are used to 5 star hotels. For the price this is a great place to stay.

Nice hotel, well finished, rooms are decent size as well. Rooms were a little warm (August night so shouldn't be too surprised) staff friendly if a little formal. The only possible downside is the location - the area itself is fine and I was perfectly happy with it, however expect a 10-15 minute walk to O'Connell Bridge and 5-10 mins to Merrion square. No probs however if you don't mind a short walk. There isn't much of interest in the immediate vicinity except a DART station which will take you into the middle of the city quite quickly. Overall a good choice if the price is right.

In all of Ireland with all it's lovely people, we had to run into the worst front office staff. They were rude, not at all helpful, and very condesending. Fortunately the Bed and Breakfasts in Dublin made up for our initial bad luck with the Grand Canal. Have traveled all over Ireland and the B&B's are the only way to go, owners who care and make you glad you came. Kudos also to the Dublin tourism office who helped us find alternate lodgings.
