“Standards have fallen”
Reviewed 7 February 2014

I usually visit the National Gallery of Ireland on my trips to Dublin two or three times a year and have lunch at the restaurant. On my most recent visit this week, I was very disappointed at the tired food on offer - overcooked and dry. The choice was also very poor. Salads were past their best. The eating area, on a wet day, was full of visitors and steaming anoraks. Not very pleasant. The place needs to look at other institutions' restaurants, such as The Silk Road in the Chester Beatty Library for inspiration. With such a wonderful location, this is a missed opportunity.

“Good food and a great gallery”
Reviewed 28 December 2013

Like the old slogan for London's V&A this is a very good cafe with a gallery attached.

Lunch based a small choice of hot food (3-4 dishes) with a good range of salads and deserts: licensed. Served self service, cafeteria style. Restaurant quiet most of the time and does good coffee and cakes too. Decor and furniture a bit basic but that's not what it's for.

Cafeteria it may be but the service is always personal and friendly. Good value makes it an excellent choice for visitors to the gallery / museum area south of Stephen's Green . Admission to the gallery is free.

By the way, the art collection is interesting and well presented.
