We stayed at Maldron Hotel Smithfield, Dublin, for 3 nights in July 2012.
Usually we don't have much expectations from a hotel in a big city,
so we were surprised to find that the hotel was clean, spacious, and above all - the service was very good.
We also were offered a discount for the breakfast which was a very good self-service meal.
It is not in the center, so the walk to Temple Bar or Trinity College is a bit long,
but there is a tram near by that passes frequently.

Dear Etomer,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post such a positive review on tripadvisor.

Excellent Customer service and cleanliness are the two elements that we strive here in the Maldron Hotel Smithfield to excel at. The entire team and I were happy you found the rooms to be so clean and the staff to be so friendly. Cleanliness is a priority for us here at the Maldron Hotel Smithfield and we strive to ensure our rooms are 100% for each of our guests.

In regards to breakfast thank you for your positive feedback. Recently Damian our new Head Chef joined the team, and he has been working very hard to improve the menu, as well as the quality, standards and variety of our food.

We look forward to welcoming you back to the hotel in the near future and thank you once again for taking the time to write your positive comment.

Regards,

Ann Marie Traynor

You can spend a lot for a hotel in Dublin, but not here. We got a GREAT value and a very lovely, clean, and spacious room to boot. Grocery store right next door provided inexpensive snacks and lunch, breakfast items. Two wonderful cafes were an easy walk for breakfast. Best of all, the best pub for traditional irish music was across the square and it was really good stuff. Ask for the resident music expert, Fergus, and make sure he sings a song. Jamison's distillery is right here too but we didn't do it.

We did actually walk to the jail and to Guiness tour, though it was a bit of a hike. You can take the tram down toward city center, but you still have to hike a bit to various sites from there. In fact, we got exhaused our last night walking from Merion Square back to the tram.

So if you don't mind the walk, this is definitely the place to stay for the money. I would sure do it again

Staff are pleasant enough, but the rooms are very basic, not to mention very stuffy. There is no air conditioning and the window which does open, only opens about 3" (75mm) which is frustrating when it's really hot. With this in mind, you may want to ditch the plastic mattress protector which is fitted to the bed. If you don't you will end up sweating buckets during the night.
Breakfast was just about acceptable, although you can tell that all the ingredients are the cheapest available.
Our door was a loose fit in the frame, and was constantly rattling around with the changes in pressure in the corridor when other residents open and closed their doors.
Location was okay, with the Smithfield Luas stop at the bottom of the road. From here you have easy access to many of the various attractions that Dublin has to offer.
As a hotel it just about scapes in. If all you need is a base, and plan to spend most of your time out and about, then you probably won't mind the basic level of the rooms.

Thank snip54

Dear Guest,

Thank you so much for taking the time to post your review on tripadvisor.

Excellent Customer and personal service and cleanliness are the two elements that we pride ourselves here in the Maldron Hotel Smithfield to excel at. The entire team and I were happy you found the staff to be so pleasant.

In regards to breakfast I was extremely upset to learn that you were so unhappy with the food. We have recently welcomed a new head chef to the team, and have recently begun to make many changes and improvements to menu.
Please note the quality of our food offering, new menus and new Head chef has been positively acknowledged by our guests up to now as can be seen by many of the reviews.

Please feel free to contact me to should you wish to discuss the matter further.
I can be contacted on the hotels number 01 4850900.

Thanking you once again for taking the time to write your informative comments on trip advisor.

Kind Regards

Ann Marie Traynor
