Visited here in 2009 and chose to stay here again when visited recently for a combined work/wedding anniversary weekend.

All the things which were good first time were the same for this time around. The hotel is well situated (out of the city centre, but 3-4 minutes walk from a tram stop and 3-4 mins walk from an airport bus stop), rooms spacious and beds comfy (a few marks on walls and carpets and no flatscreen TVS or aircon, but nothing too drastic), friendly staff (check in and out was a breeze) and excellent breakfast (all you can eat for 8 Euro if you pre-pay - good, full irish selection of sausages, bacon, scrambled eggs, white and black pudding, tomatoes, plus continental selection and juices). One more thing, despite arriving 5 hours before the advertised check-in, we were checked in and in our room within 10 minutes of walking through the front door.

The square in which the hotel sits is quite nice and there is a very good supermarket a few steps away. On our first day we went to 'Third Square' café nearby for a breakfast and can very much recommend. The Jameson Distillary museum is a stones throw away.

For eating, both 'Boxty' and 'The Old Storehouse' in Temple Bar are amongst the best options. Both have websites with menus on, but we found the food delicious, very well priced and good portions.

Overall, an excellent hotel (perhaps needs a little cash spending on modernising rooms/corridors) and would very happily recommend/book again if ever we return to Dublin.

Room Tip: Drop reception an email beforehand and ask for a balcony room facing the front. They'd noted our...

We booked this hotel based on the great reviews and we certainly weren't disappointed. Although out of the main hustle and bustle of the city it's located right on the Luas line and bus routes which makes it a perfect location for getting around Dublin. I'd asked for a balcony room and we were given one - in fact, we'd been upgraded to a suite on arrival which was a real treat and the corner room had a lovely wrap-around balcony with great views. Unfortunately, the room only slept two and our booking was for three people but it was quickly sorted and, although our new room wasn't as lovely as the suite, it was more than adequate and the staff couldn't have been more apologetic or helpful. The hotel is clean, tidy and comfortable - and would put many other 3 star hotels to shame. Only disappointment was the breakfast - fairly limited choice and not great value for money. But there are plenty of other places to get breakfast on the doorstep so don't let this put you off!

Lovely place to stay just slightly out of the main hustle and bustle but close to the Guinness factory and taxis have excellent service in Dublin. However we walked most places by foot as we were only staying for the night. Room was spacious and views weren't great too. Clean and tidy. Reception staff were also very helpful good stay in Dublin :)

I highly recommend the Maldron Smithfield hotel to all who want to have an excellent stay in Dublin.

The room was clean, spacious with a huge balcony overlooking the “big square”.
The bathrooms were sparkling clean. The stuff was helpful and polite.

Location of the hotel was perfect – there is a nice grocery store next to hotel, perfect for a quick breakfast. In addition there are nice small restaurants right in the square and a small playground.
The town center is a short walk away, but we used the tram few times (2 stops) because kids loved riding it.

I was attending Paul Weller concert in Dublin and needed somewhere cheap for one night, though I wanted it to be clean. I've stayed before in Dublin and it can be expensive for what you get. A friend recommended Maldron hotels, and this was the closest to concert venue.

The hotel was pretty easy to find. I came by train and walked from Connolly station, maybe about 20 minute walk, used google maps. The hotel is in Smithfield plaza, there a few bars and restaurants close by, and the Jamesons factory is close by.

The hotel seemed pretty modern, and rooms were clean and pretty big. There was a small balcony on the room as well, overlooking the plaza.

I didn't eat or drink in the hotel so can't review what that was like, but I would stay here again if I was in Dublin, and would certainly recommend it.

Forgot to review this hotel, I travel alot and didnt get around to it. The hotel is in a good location, but has the feel of a bed and breakfast, the foyer and bar areas are very small and is not an appealing place to site around in, the rooms are hot and stuffy due to excessive solar gain and no ventilation provided to the rooms, I didn't get a great nights sleep. As with many Dublin Hotels very average but promote themselves way above their station.

Room Tip: Try an stay somewhere where the rooms have aircon. You will find it difficult to sleep.

Excellent location with the Luas stop about 100 meters away. Great location to visit the Jameson Distillery since there is always a wait to get the tour. We got our time slot and went to our room and waited till our time slot. Since the Jameson Distillery is also a stop for the sightseeing Hop On Hop Off bus, you can pick up this bus right by the hotel. We even walked to O'Connell St. once which is not that far. The supermarket downstairs is very convenient to pick up snack items, pastries etc. The adjacent restaurants are good too. We tried the Italian place. Staff was very helpful with the queries that I had. For my trip to Cork by Irish rail, getting to the Dublin Heuston station was very fast from the Smithfield Luas station (only two stops).
