“Fantastic Location Shame About The Hotel”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 November 2013

We stayed here two nights over the October bank holiday weekend. Food was pretty OK. Bed really comfortable and the room was reasonably quite for a City centre hotel. But it was very expensive for what was on offer. There's no parking, staff were only Ok and the big issue was the hotel was very old and worn out. It looks like it was due for renovation 10 years back and not much has been done in terms of maitenance since.

Room Tip: If all you need is a clean bed in a gret location this is the one for you.

Dear Sean K,

I am sorry to read about your experiences in our hotel. We are working on a redevelopment plan for the hotel which will include all our public areas.

I am hopeful we will have works starting on this in the new year.

Hopefully we will get the opportunity to welcome you back and you can see the improvements we have made.

I loved this hotel, unfortunately there was no steak left when ordering dinner so had a burger instead which was just ok, my husband had fish which he said was very tasty, breakfast very good, I loved the smoothie. Staff are very friendly, bedroom is excellent, my one gripe is the lack of free wi-fi which I would expect as standard.

My younger 2 sons and I thoroughly enjoyed a weekend in Dublin, doing all the touristy things and it was terrific having a terrific hotel to rest between outings! It was a real pleasure to be staying at such a friendly and clean place. The staff were all very helpful and nothing was a bother.

I stayed at this hotel for a long weekend this October. The location is great (just a stones throw away from St. Stephen's Green Park, Grafton Street, and to other main attractions in the City Centre). The price was good and the staff was helpful/friendly.

Room Tip: We stayed in a junior suite that worked out well for 3 people.

A nice location on the corner of Stephen's Green and Harcourt Street in Dublin 2.
The bedroom felt a bit dated decor-wise, but was clean and fine.
Bar is very nice.
Gym was small, but was fine for me.
The buffet breakfast was poor. Very disappointed that there was no offer of eggs, just a big pot of the scrambled variety, which were almost tasteless. I'd also expect better sausages from an Irish hotel. While it wasn't overly expensive, I really wish I'd saved my €13 and found somewhere else for a proper breakfast.

Dear Graham R,

Thank you for your comments on Tripadvisor.

I am disappointed that you were not offered eggs from our kitchen, we as a team always want to assist our guest in ensuing they can get anything they wish for.

We do have signage around of buffet areas highlighting additional food and services from the kitchen - we have also introduced a full a'la carte menu from the kitchen which offers additional products and services for our guests.

I do hope on your next visit to Dublin you will return to us and we can offer you a wonderful freshly prepare breakfast.

Best Personal Regards,

Dara Cruise

The hotel has no free WiFi. Guests can only connect for 60 minutes per day. The WiFi connection interrupts all the time. And the rates to buy additional time are very huge. The Radisson, just around the corner, offers free WiFi, all the time.
The public busses provides hotspots as well. For free. A 24 hours bus ticket is much more cheaper, than the Stephens Green rates.
I'll never come back.

Stayed for two nights. Great location as you can walk straight into town day or night. Room was nice and clean, nothing very special but you wouldn't expect for the price. Breakfast was lovely, loved the sausages and the buffet style suited us as you could just pick what you wanted. Staff were fine, not very friendly but not rude or anything. The only thing to watch out is parking is in St. Stephen's Green car park and it cost €17.50 per day, so it is worthwhile to keep this in mind as although it's not the most expensive hotel this does put up the price. Overall, we would stay here again.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
The hotel comprises of two magnificently restored Georgian buildings, with a heritage of great historical and cultural importance to Ireland. One was home to the great Irish playwright, George Fitzmaurice, while 4 Harcourt Street was the birthplace of Lord Edward Carson, one of the founders of Northern Ireland and a central figure in Ireland’s Unionism movement. Entering through the tasteful reception area, guests will be struck by the stunning glass atrium, filling the lobby with natural light and overlooking the idyllic Stephen’s Green park. The stylish interior design throughout the hotel, with wood panelling and soft leather furnishings sitting alongside Georgian stucco ceilings and elegant fireplaces, beautifully showcases the fusion of old and new. George Fitzmaurice is honoured in the hotel through our bar and restaurant, which are named after two of his plays. The ‘Magic Glasses’ Bar is an opulent, comfortable bar where local businesspeople and visitors alike regularly meet over a coffee or drink, while the ‘Pie Dish’ Bistro, set in the bright atrium and the inner rooms of the Georgian houses, serves the finest in contemporary Irish and international cuisine. Located on the first floor, the Georgian library has a charming old-world feel, where you can sit in 19th century surrounds, featuring open fireplaces and chandeliers – an ideal way to unwind over a pre-dinner drink. A gymnasium is available for the exclusive use of residents, while the business centre is open 24 hours, with a secretarial service available for the business guest.
