We went on this canal cruise last Autumn, and I meant to write a review sooner, but I am very happy to report that we had a great experience - we boarded the barge at Grand Canal Dock and cruised for approx. 2 hours through a number of locks as far as Charlemont (Harcourt Terrace). The barge itself was beautiful, with gleaming brass, and was spotlessly clean (including the toilets). Service was friendly and efficient and the meal we received was top class - I don't know how such excellent cuisine came from 2 guys in a very compact galley! Also, the wine available was very good and fairly priced. I strongly recommend this trip for both visitors to Dublin and - like ourselves - residents, as it give both an interesting perspective on the city and a really relaxing and enjoyable 'wind down' experience; one of the aspects we particularly enjoyed was the chat with other guests who, because a barge is compact, are close by .... it created a real sense of being part of a group on an adventure. By the way, make sure to go up on deck when the barge is going through one of the locks - it is a fascinating exercise to observe.
