“A great nights entertainment”

The Merry Ploughboy Irish Music Pub
Ranked #2 of 71 Concerts & Shows in Dublin

Attraction details
Owner description: The Merry Ploughboy is the only pub in Ireland owned and managed by musicians, and it is the 'hands on' approach from the owners that makes a visit to the Merry Ploughboy the highlight of many people's trip to Ireland. The two hour Irish music & Irish dancing show (which takes place nightly at the pub) has been awarded "Best Dinner/Entertainment Event in Ireland" and the pub is the current "Music Pub of the Year" in Ireland. Owners and musicians, The Merry Ploughboys, have been performing together for 25 years making their show the longest running show in Ireland hosted continuously by the same performers. The pub is located about 20 minutes south of Dublin City centre with complimentary car parking. It is easily accessed by taxi or if you are staying in the city centre we recommend our shuttle transfer service (just 7.50 euro return fare). The transfer by luxury executive coach offers an elevated view of the scenic Southside of Dublin city. After the show, the coach will drop you back as close as practical to your accommodation. Reservations are essential, however online bookings for the dinner & show (and shuttle transfer if required) can be made in real-time on our own website. We operate a "ticketless" booking system. You will receive a unique booking reference number on your email receipt and our floor manager will have all your details when you arrive at the pub.

“Not to miss Dublin experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 29 June 2014

The place was full on our night, takes 200 they say.
Food was very good, as was the service. Waiters and Waitresses are soon near you to order more drinks. Water is supplied on the table free of charge and frequently replenished on request.
We arrived on a coach with a Diamond Holidays tour after a drive down narrowing lanes from Dublin. It's about a 30 minute drive. Big car park across the road, where the coach stays. Pub staff marshall coaches and customers for safety.
Dinner from 7pm, show starts at 9pm. Band/Dancers/Band with a little audience participation in the later half of the band's performance. As there were several parties of Americans I think it's a safe bet they get folk to go up on stage.
(Judging by the photos, the "Merry Ploughboys" are more than 5 individuals! So they mix up the line-up from night to night I'd imagine)
There's a lift for the disabled to get up to the first floor hall.
The show is fantastic, with many well known Irish tunes; and finished with the Irish National Anthem in Gaelic. Nice patriotic touch.
Following on from disappointments with the holiday this topped it off nicely.
I was most impressed, and sorry it ended so soon.
Do not miss this experience if in Dublin. There is a coach pickup in operation for a small cost.

“So fun!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 25 June 2014

Food was ok, service is frenzied. They are on tight timeline to get everyone fed and get dishes cleared. Entertainment is spot-on wonderful! The music, dancing, and environment were wonderful! We arranged for transportation and Barry picked us up at our hotel and took us back. He was so much fun and made this experience even more fun than it already was. This is a must-do event!!!

“Great Irish Dance and Music Experience”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 June 2014

Our travel agent highly recommended that my husband I dine and experience the Irish dance and music at The Merry Ploughboys. My husband and I now highly recommend that anyone visiting Dublin make reservations and experience a night at The Merry Ploughboys. We made our reservations online along with the option of a coach service that picked us up at a nearby Dublin city center hotel. We didn't have to worry about driving. We were able to just go and enjoy the show. We had such an excellent time. The food was delicious. The service was great and the music and dance was beautiful to watch and listen to. The band is interactive and they get the crowd singing and laughing. My favorite was the fiddler. The sound of the fiddle and his voice is so unique. You are seated at long family style tables, so it's a great set up for interacting with your neighbors and making new friends for the night.

“Nice evening with many friends”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 17 June 2014

Our company planned an evening here for about 100 people. The atmosphere was very authentic Irish as was the music and food. We had a choice of four entrees and all the food was delivered hot and with quality. The musicians were very engaging.
