Owner description: The Monday Echo is a songwriter and spoken showcase every Monday night. Each week, a different line up of about 7 local artists perform short sets of their own work. The night takes place in a traditional pub setting with no microphones or amplification. This "listening venue" makes it possible to hear every detail in the music and voices. The show happens every Monday in the basement of the Mezz bar in the heart of Dublin's Temple Bar district. The audience can reach the candlelit basement venue via a series of corridors and back stairs. Best to ask for directions at the main bar.

A truly eclectic mix of all things weird and wonderful, this weekly acoustic night boasts the entire spectrum from supreme talent to extreme characters. Hosted with endless patience, tact and good humour, the night starts with a showcase of singers/spoken word performers and finishes up with an open mic section where anything can happen. More diversity than a box of odd socks, this night is a must do for visitors looking for a cross section of natives, blow ins and some damn good homegrown entertainment.

For anyone looking for a night that is truly Dublin. This is it. A home to new and old voices, a way to start each new week with dreams in your eyes. There are a lot of poetry/songwriter type nights in Dublin. But none like this. None that will sit in your heart longer. None that will haunt you or revisit you so many times. Aidan Murphy provides the perfect balance on the night, hosting, selecting and introducing the acts with his usual humor and charm. There's always a new face on the stage, a new talent. There's always a perfect blend of acts, an open mic at the end and a few of Dublin's lunatics to keep things hilarious. So many of the big names in performance poetry and songwriting...first found their feet in this little basement and revisit it time and time again. My only regret is that I can't be sitting in that little audience, supporting Ireland's wonderful culture for words, more often.

This weeklly songwriter and poetry showcase is an underground (literally) cultural night that features different local acts every week. It's a completely acoustic in the tradition of Dublin pub sessions.
