Description: Roly's Bistro opened in Dublin in November 1992 and quickly became one of the city's busiest and best loved restaurants. Its reasonably-priced menu and wine list together with a casual, light-hearted atmosphere made it an instant hit with everybody from romantic couples to families, from business executives to local and visiting celebrities. Today, a team of 27 chefs serve freshly-cooked food to over three thousand people a week without compromising on quality and standards. Fresh heated bread is baked daily in the bakery.

Very few restaurants have been around for 20 years and still manage to deliver consistent food and service standards, at reasonable prices, and yet avoid being dull : Roly's is one of that very select elite !

We had been here before for different reasons - sometimes business, occasionally as a couple. This visit was very different : lunch to celebrate a MAJOR Birthday of a family member, so we wondered would Roly's live up to our (high) expectations - YES it definitely did.

Our group of 11 spanned 3 generations - 8 adults from 40s to 80s + 3 youngsters from 6 to 13, and to our great delight, all seemed to enjoy the experience.

There was a slight delay in taking our orders, but service moved smoothly from then on. The well-priced Lunch Menu offered good choices + the younger people were offered the option of a special Menu. Fish cakes & Chicken / Ham Terrine were popular choices for Starters (from a list of 6), and Mains (10 options) picked by the adults included Roast Loin of Pork, Seatrout Fillet & Chicken Breast with Parma Ham. Chicken & Chips was popular with the younger people. Most of the gathering opted for a Dessert, chosen from a selection of 6 beautifully presented creations. A few of the adults sampled a bottle of Rioja, which proved adequate.

Highlight of the occasion was the "Happy Birthday" performance at Dessert Time - unlike places we've been before, the staff actually sang as if they meant it. Well done !

The Bill (including a standard 10% Service Charge) was very reasonable for the excellent Food & Service, and we left feeling that we had chosen just the right place for this Family Occasion.

Restaurant: Roly's Bistro
You just can't beat Roly's. It's been here for years but the quality and value are better than ever. Even on a Monday night the place was buzzing but the service was not compromised. Mrs Slurryhead and I had a very pleasant 3 course meal and a couple of pints of Guinness to wash it down. Our waiter was a little on the dour side but his service was exemplary. Has to be amongst the best value restaurants in town. A classy restaurant, classy service, classy food but no classy prices.

Good food, good buzz, and a friendly competent staff. I had the prawn bisque which comes witha little jug of brandy, and a lamb pie that would satisfy a trencherman.

We returned to Roly's Bistro following our visit earlier in the year which was perfect.

The food was excellent and couldn't be faulted, but I found the service a little strange to say the least.

Before being taken to the table we were advised that we would need to have finished our meal within an hour, as the table was booked for another party afterwards.

This is the first time a restaurant has given us a time limit for our table. It made us feel slightly rushed through our meal, with us checking our watches. I would certainly not expect this, especially with the prices we were paying.

I would go there again though (just for the food), and hope this was just a one-off, and not the norm to allocate people a set amount of time to eat a three course meal !!
