I came here for their pre-theatre dinners and it was great. The staff were really friendly and welcoming, and the place itself is decorated nicely.
The food was very good and it was presented very well.
The pre-theatre menu was very good value.

My wife and I went to the Green Hen at the weekend. When we asked for a table for two, we were told that the restaurant would be closing within the hour, and would not be open again until later that evening. We asked if we could sit at the bar; that was not a problem. Note that, during our entire time there, we saw many people being turned away.. (we were there around 3.30pm). It appears that the kitchen closes during the afternoon, and then re-opens again for the evening at around 5.30. In the meantime, they turn people away. Weird.. Why wouldn't the kitchen stay open..? Also, they don't have a licence to serve drink unless the patron also purchases food. Given that they couldn't serve food (due to the kitchen closing), they also turned people away when they only wanted an afternoon drink.
Saying all of this, what did we think..? Well the food was great. We had a few drinks sitting at the bar. The ambiance is very different; quite good. We felt like we could have been sitting anywhere in the world. The service was efficient; the prices were reasonable.
I guess their licence issues are what they are, but the customer experience could be improved with some small changes - not least of which would be not to turn so many people away..! Maybe business is really good at the Green Hen...?
Bottom line - would we go back again? Yes, for afternoon food, or for lunch. We thought that the area at the back (the restaurant) appeared to be very tightly packed together. I don't think we'd enjoy dinner if we were crammed into that space.

My husband booked dinner here as a surprise for our twentieth wedding anniversary weekend. We had two seats reserved at the end of the bar which I was initially uncertain about but his choice was spot on. My seared scallops followed by trio of lamb were sublime and the trio of chocolate desserts was another great choice, all choices approved by the bar tender who proved plenty of entertainment as we watched him blend his cocktails. We rounded off the evening with an espresso martini which was a fabulous finale to a fantastic evening!

Decent grub, nice ambience. Surf and turf with fillet steak and scallops was well worth it at €28. Sacrifice another course and trade up if on a budget. Perfectly cooked, well presented, simple but memorable. Selection of deserts for €16 to share between 2/3 was perfect.
