“Family Christmas at Ross Castle”
Reviewed 6 January 2012

Seventeen members of our family from the US gathered at lovely Ross Castle for Christmas this year. The rooms are so beautiful and the hosts so gracious. The location is about 20 minutes outside of Galway City - far enough to feel very remote and close enough to get in and around easily. We went on day trips to the Burren, the Cliffs of Moher, Connemara, the Aran Islands and others almost every day and enjoyed pints of Guinness at the pub at the end of the road - walking distance for the youthful. Elizabeth was very responsive to numerous emails getting us sorted out in rooms by family groups, ordering our Christmas turkey, and generally helping with finding things we needed. We had a delightful stay.

We absolutely loved our stay here. It felt like I travelled through time and space and landed in heaven on earth. The castle is in fantastic shape and the grounds are breathtaking. The gardens are out of this world beautiful. I took so many pictures that I will be painting. Absolutely inspiring. Marshall and George are the kindest and most attentive hosts. My 7 year old son said on the plane home that he misses Marshall already! I would go back again and again and again!!!

22 members of the extended "Small" and "Fitzpatrick" families spent the second full week in Ireland using Ross Castle as our home base. The experience was extraordinary. Elizabeth, the lady of the estate, could not have been more accommodating. She was helpful in all respects, delightful to talk to and very informative when it came to the history of the estate. The accommodations were more than we expected, more than ample living quarters that included sitting room, bedrooms, gardens and courtyards. I can not say enough good things about our experience and highly recommend the experience for anyone wishing to spend some time in County Galway. We are already talking about a return trip in the future. Thank you, Elizabeth and to Margaret Mary too!

Just returned from a week-long stay at Ross Castle with 8 other family members. We rented Catherine's Cottage and the Gallery, but Elizabeth upgraded us to The Mews at no additional cost because an expected bathroom repair was not completed in time. The castle and grounds are lovely, with an expansive lawn that ends at the lake. The location is perfect for exploring the Aran Islands, Connamara peninsula, and Galway city We did all of those things and more, while enjoying the Forge pub and crystal factory in Moycullin. Tea with Elzabeth and George was delightful, as was the very informative tour of the castle and its history. Definitely works for groups needing separate space, and for a stay in an authentic Irish environment. Would definitely return for another visit.

We absolutely loved staying at Ross Castle. We were in Catherine's cottage. It had plenty of room. Very large bedrooms and living areas. Heated floors and towel racks were a nice touch. The grounds at Ross Castle were extraordinary. Beautiful gardens and a HUGE lawn! We loved walking around and exploring! The location is also great for visiting the Connemara region and Galway. Wonderful pubs and shops close by. We particularly enjoyed The Forge in Moycullen.

Awesome! Very quiet and peaceful base for our Ireland countyside day trips. Our hosts were great; knowledgeable, gracious and accomodating. Great, great spot. Our family (7 adults) would recommend it to anyone wanting a great Ireland countryside experience. Take a look at www.rosscastle.com

13 of us rented 4 of the "apartments" as self-catering, but arranged to have several dinners and every breakfast cooked for us. We arranged to have breakfast ready at 8am every morning and it was always on time, also dinners were all on time and excellent. The accommodations were nice and the property beautiful! The gardens and grounds are just spectacular. Also our hosts Elizabeth and George were just delightful and very pleasant to work with. Elizabeth went above and beyond my expectations. The group of us travel yearly usually renting large properties as self catering, with supplemented meals and again Elizabeth and her staff went above and beyond. The dinners they prepared, 4 courses, were excellent, they use only the freshest ingredients and get many things from their own garden. The Home Made Vanilla Ice Cream and Chocolate Chip Cookies were in a word Yummy! If we go back to Ireland we will go back to Ross Castle.

We used the Castle as a central point for our fundraising event, we made cycling and walking trips out into the countryside and back, the location was perfect. The group raise dmore than $35,000.00 for Children with AIDS and Breast Cancer Organizations. Additional information on the group and out trips can be found at www.rfac.org
