Desota House Bed and Breakfast
Ranked #64 of 189 Galway B&B and Inns
Reviewed 10 May 2014

stayed here the night before an exam and was very happy with it. The room I had was a very good size with a very large and comfortable bed. Breakfast the next morning was lovely, and the gentleman who was working was very courteous and friendly.
My room was at the front and the thin windows meant the people walking past sounded like they were in the room with you, but as I didn't do much sleeping (cramming!) it didn't bother me too much. The tiles in the shower could have done with a little clean too.
Despite this, I was overall very impressed with the B&B and would stay again. The free parking and wifi were great. In addition, on check out I accidently gave him too much money and the man came running down the street after me with it. so thank you for being so honest!!!

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the back, which are quieter

Stayed here for 3 nights, very easily accessible and good location for touring the areas both inside and outside of the city.
Rooms are nice, well equipped and comfortable beds. Only negative was the shower, the head was loose which meant it was difficult to control and there was a shower curtain hanging in place of where a door once was, I hate shower curtains, they're typically not very hygienic and tend to wrap around you!
Breakfast was excellent, much better than what I was expecting.
Overall a great stay, would definitely return.

Stayed here with friends for the new year. A lovely B&B, nice clean rooms and easy walk into town. The gentleman who welcomed us was so lovely and friendly. Made us feel right at home, gave us glasses for out champagne and even let breakfast (delicious) go on longer than usual on new years day! Would definitely stay again.

We stayed here for 2 nights having chosen it for the location. We weren't disappointed, as it is only about a 10 minute walk from the centre. There is plenty of off-street parking and though situated on a main road, we had a room at the back which was very quiet.

Criticisms (the reason, therefore, for 4 stars rather than 5) are firstly that our room (no. 10) was small and the two of us could not move around the room without bumping into each other - we are not large people either. There was no room for a desk, which was listed under room facilities, neither was a room safe provided, despite being on the booking form. The ensuite was tiny. On the plus side, there was a fridge in the room which was useful for keeping water cool.

All the staff were friendly, welcoming and helpful. One small problem with the shower was corrected soon after being reported.

Breakfast was excellent and the cold buffet table, though small, offered plenty of choice. We could choose from 3 types of bread which we could toast as and when we needed. Hot toast - bliss! The cooked breakfast choice included a veggie option (thank you for being the first place to offer us that) and food was very well cooked, well presented and served piping hot. Our one and only criticism (and the second reason for only giving 4 stars) is that the orange 'juice' was not fresh orange, but was a watery juice drink.

We really liked this B&B and the location, especially with parking spaces, was so convenient. We feel it offers great value for money and would happily stay again, should we return to Galway. Make sure that you book ahead though as it is, understandably, popular.

Room Tip: When choosing a double, request one of the larger ones, but not one at the front if you need a quiet...

It's been a full year (we travelled there in Sept 2012, despite what the "When did you travel" box says) since we stayed there, so it's about time to write the review... First, the Desota House was very easy to find for someone not from the area. The lady who welcomed us was very friendly, and helpful with suggestions upon being asked about dining and attractions. The wifi signal, one of my needs as a geek, was strong and reliable. Close to Lower Canal Road (Canal Road Lower?), it was an easy walk with a surprisingly scenic cityscape to the main pedestrian area. A delicious Irish breakfast, and an easy drive to day-trip on Inis Mór were just what we were looking for. We felt that the B&B was a secure location to leave our bags while day-tripping. It was a bit noisy outside at night, but I suspect that it was more due to the unusually beautiful weather and start of university than to the neighborhood itself. We would definitely stay there again and recommend to friends who want to stay somewhere for a competitive price.

A friendly and helpful welcome from the girl on duty when we arrived. Desota is about a 6 or 7 minute walk to the centre area of quay street. We were given some good recommendations for pubs and food. The quay street kitchen is really good for a veggie.
Free wifi was fast and we also had our airline boarding passes printed for us.
Breakfast was a great buffet with a cooked menu also.
