We really enjoyed our stay at Gratttan Lodge. Connie and Pat are great hosts - they've been doing this for 16 years and it shows. They are very helpful in making recommendations regarding local things to see and do, if you request it. Pat showed us where we were on the map and gave us several routes to get to town, in case the weather was inclement (and it was later that day, so we were very thankful). The house has 5 bedrooms upstairs, yet it is so quiet we thought we were the only guests there - until we went to breakfast and saw 6 other people! Try Pat's special porridge - it is full of seeds, nuts and fruit - really tasty! :)

The Lodge is right across the street from the bay, a 10 min walk to town or 5 min walk to the Salt Hill resort area. Great pedestrian area in town full of shops and pubs. We found a mini-mart to pick up bottled water and snacks to take on the tour bus. Great live music in every pub, starts usually after 730pm. If you get tired, there are taxis waiting at Jury Inn on your way back to the lodge. There are also taxis at the other end near the square.

Special note for naturalists/photographers: As you walk from the Lodge to town, you will see many wild swans in the water just before the bridge.

We had a great welcome from Connie & Pat. who were most helpful in helping find a few family history locations nearby. Lovely clean room, superb breakfast with great bread; surrounded by colourful & interesting artwork. Galway was buzzing with a festival, so very lively. Highly recommended.

We felt very welcome from the very beginning when Pat met us at the door. Everything is very clean, the location is great: five minutes to Salt Hill with its pubs and restaurants, about 10-15 minutes to the city centre, and the sea is just across the road. Our colleagues who were staying at Salthill hotel were really jealous of our breakfast, particularly of scrambled eggs with smoked salmon. Pat, Connie and Michelle were very helpful and did everything to make our stay even more comfortable. I definitely think it's my best hotel/B&B experience.

Absolutely loved this B&B, Pat & Connie were so friendly & their advice on local places or sights was invaluable. Pat even drove us up to the local restaurant area (Salt Hill) so that we could determine if this was OK with us (which was perfect). Their breakfast was to die for. If you ever want experience true local Irish hospitality - book in to Grattan Lodge, you will not regret it. Very clean, friendly & good value. Well located with a super outlook across Galway Bay.

Nice and clean bed and breakfast. Good location: ~10 minutes to city centre, nice view to the bay.

Room is ok, the only downside is shower was tiny. Still, will stay again and will recommend it.

Price is fair and out group of 6 got discount for using 2 rooms instead of 3 and letting two other girls take room as well.

We stayed at Grattan Lodge for 6 nights and felt very welcome with any request we came up during our stay. The room was clean and neat with a great view of Galway bay. The breakfast was huge and delicious (including lots of fruits, cereals, amazing porridge, homemade bread, pancakes, smoked salmon or full Irish) and especially the way we were treated was superior to anything that can be experienced in a hotel. Connie and Pat were one of the best hosts we ever met.

Next time we plan a trip to Galway, Grattan Lodge will be our first option.

Room Tip: Naturally, we preferred the sea-view rooms.

We arrived early at Grattan Lodge and were immediately made to feel supremely welcome by Connie who was busy planting spring flowers in the front garden. We were concerned that we may have been to early to check in but there was no problem and Connie summoned son Carl to take us to our room. We had a lovely view over the sea, the room was spotless, bed comfortable and the bathroom wasn't at all cramped unlike some B&B's! Grattan Lodge is a short, pleasant walk from the centre of town, it took us less than ten minutes. The breakfasts were epic. Pat cooks up a storm in the mornings and after the smoked salmon scrambled eggs and extras, home made bread, toast and fruit I was stuffed. My wife had a full Irish plateful, neither of us could face lunch! One thing that struck us was the level of hospitality afforded us. Nothing was too much trouble. My wife had a nasty headcold and Connie brought her hot lemon and honey to ease her misery. We would definitely stay here again when next in Galway and highly recommend this B&B.
