“Wonderful array of cheeses”
Reviewed 27 May 2014

We visited the cheese shop to buy an assortment of cheeses for our own Happy Hour back at our hotel. Some of the cheeses were unique to Ireland, and some were imported from France and other countries, and we wanted to try a variety of them. We had a newly hired young man wait on us who didn't yet know much about the cheeses he was selling, and he had to keep consulting the manager (or owner?) about the different cheeses we were asking about. We could tell she was getting annoyed because we weren't buying large quantities. We specifically wanted to sample a lot of different cheeses, so we were ordering approximately 1/4 pound of each. The shop itself is not a necessarily pleasant place, being rather old, tired and smelly. Our experience as customers was not a very positive one. But when we got back to our hotel with our wine, baguette, and cheeses, we were very pleased with the cheeses that we had bought. Among them were Wicklow blue cheese, "real" French brie, an Irish smoked cheese, etc. The cheeses themselves were great, but not so much the service. Nowadays shopkeepers should be grateful for customers spending money in their establishments, even if it annoys them.

“Loved it here!”
Reviewed 24 May 2014

My husband and I had dinner here for our last night in Ireland. Talk about ending on a high note! The place doesn't look fancy at all; in fact, it's super casual and the main decor is the bottles of wine on the shelves and the people gathering for post-work drinks. The atmosphere is not pretentious at all, just very come-as-you-are and chill. We stayed long enough to have two cheese boards and several glasses of wine. We sampled several different types of cheese that ranged from hard to soft, and all were excellent. Our server was very friendly. By the time we left, the place was packed. I'd kill to have a low-key wine bar like this in Boston where people don't have attitudes and just gather together to enjoy the wine and cheese!

“Better than excellent cheese!!”
Reviewed 30 April 2014

Not only does this wine bar have the best selection of cheese in Galway but the best in Ireland! I am from Galway and visit Sheridans regularly. If you are reading this you will see I an a huge cheese fan and love their selection in the winebar and shop downstairs. Gerry and Martin always take such good care of us and always recommend an excellent wine to acompany your cheese/meat board....a MUST try :) enjoy!

Lovely cold platters, with cheese or meat, great wines, served by the glass, the man serving really knew the local produce and shared much info with us. Can recommend!

“Beautiful wines and chees”
Reviewed 6 April 2014 via mobile

Just popped in after the Grand National
Gerry the barman /waiter served us two classic red Italian wines
Don't tell anyone but because we had to stand as the place was busy he treated us to a lovely snack of crackers of Parma ham and cheese. Yummy
