“Blessed are the cheesemakers”

Wonderful post shopping stop to imbibe in wine, cheeses and cold meats. It is only a small room above the cheese shop, but I would rather call it an intimate rustic room, where you rub shoulders with the locals. A good place to buy a selection of bottled wine too.

“A hidden gem”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 June 2014

Just off Quay Street near the church, find Sheridans. I honestly can't tell you anything about the retail shop, but later in the afternoon, go up to the wine bar and enjoy an authentic Galway experience with incredible wine, a very knowledgeable and friendly server, and lovely bites like a cheese and charcuterie tray, a trio of spreads (hummus, tapenade, etc), a bit of soup.

You'll meet locals and visitors alike in this tiny space. We wanted to go back every night of our stay!

“Great fine food and wine shop”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

There is a great variety of delicious cheeses in this shop and the wines are of equal great quality. The cold meats are also all delicious and tasty. The staff is always helpful and know what they are talking about. Seamus is always very helpful and up for a chat. An all around great shop, a gem in Galway.

“Wonderful array of cheeses”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 27 May 2014

We visited the cheese shop to buy an assortment of cheeses for our own Happy Hour back at our hotel. Some of the cheeses were unique to Ireland, and some were imported from France and other countries, and we wanted to try a variety of them. We had a newly hired young man wait on us who didn't yet know much about the cheeses he was selling, and he had to keep consulting the manager (or owner?) about the different cheeses we were asking about. We could tell she was getting annoyed because we weren't buying large quantities. We specifically wanted to sample a lot of different cheeses, so we were ordering approximately 1/4 pound of each. The shop itself is not a necessarily pleasant place, being rather old, tired and smelly. Our experience as customers was not a very positive one. But when we got back to our hotel with our wine, baguette, and cheeses, we were very pleased with the cheeses that we had bought. Among them were Wicklow blue cheese, "real" French brie, an Irish smoked cheese, etc. The cheeses themselves were great, but not so much the service. Nowadays shopkeepers should be grateful for customers spending money in their establishments, even if it annoys them.

“Loved it here!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 24 May 2014

My husband and I had dinner here for our last night in Ireland. Talk about ending on a high note! The place doesn't look fancy at all; in fact, it's super casual and the main decor is the bottles of wine on the shelves and the people gathering for post-work drinks. The atmosphere is not pretentious at all, just very come-as-you-are and chill. We stayed long enough to have two cheese boards and several glasses of wine. We sampled several different types of cheese that ranged from hard to soft, and all were excellent. Our server was very friendly. By the time we left, the place was packed. I'd kill to have a low-key wine bar like this in Boston where people don't have attitudes and just gather together to enjoy the wine and cheese!
