Number 7 Cross Street

Reviewed 9 December 2011

7 Cross Street is a walk-up with 4 floors. Good things - as previous posters have noted, the location is perfect for access to everything in the city center. The building has history - the exposed beam in our room is part of the original building and over 500 years old. Our room had modern drum lights, modern Heat/AC unit, very clean and crisp percale sheets on the double bed. Not so good things - as noted the rooms are small with small bathrooms. There is storage space under the bed and on a coat rack, but anything left on the floor would block the narrow walkspace around the bed. Modern shower is a corner of the bathroom, shaped like a quadrant of a circle. If you are a larger person, you will have trouble squeezing between the sliding shower doors. Noise doesn't bother me, but Front Door bar right across the street seemed to have good live music up until midnight and then you hear boisterous patrons on the streets. We ate dinner there - highly recommend. The early morning brings sounds of the cleanup crews and garbagemen, but I consider these native noises to any larger city center.

My wife and I have stayed in a "Japanese businessman's" hotel room in the past. If you have been in one of these or other "boutique" hotels, this hotel will meet your expectations. We were expecting small, and with the limitations of the old architecture, I think the hotel did a good job. My wife and I are used to much bigger hotel rooms, but we packed light for our 2 days there and were fine.

The worst aspect of my stay in Galway, in my opinion, is the high cost of parking a car. The around the corner Spanish Arch parking deck was ten Euros overnight, but this is only 6pm to 9am. Add about 2 euros an hour before and after that time.

Breakfast was continental and everything was fresh. Hosts were wonderful and nice. My wife would stay there again.

Room Tip: Lower number rooms are on the top floor. Get a room on the back side if you are a light sleeper.

Great city centre location (in the midst of the Spanish Arch, City Museum, Latin Quarter pubs all around, and shopping in every direction).
Friendly and helpful staff were a delight.
Enjoyed the stairs to be honest, nice change from elevators.
Beautiful clean decor and such a charming building with an interesting history... what old Galway building doesn't. They have maintained the character of this building, whilst renovating it's modernities.
The room was a reasonable size for a couple, and the on-suite bathroom was very well designed and very clean. Air conditioning (a good new one, I must say) in bedroom worked hot and cold air, not that you'd need it to cool down a room in Ireland.
If you're over-sensitive about the hustle and bustle of Irish pubs outside at the weekends, then book a room that is not facing the street. We didn't mind the noise, wasn't loud at all. I slept like a lamb.
Nice TV in room, but I'm not a TV watcher when I'm there to enjoy Galway.
The breakfast was nice, continental style.
We will definitely be returning to 7 Cross Street Boutique! Loved it there.
PS: It was certainly not over priced when we stayed in Nov 2011, it was a bargain in fact.

The people who work at this boutique could not have been nicer, let us get that out ofthe way. The location is smack dab off the shopping street, walk to many of Galways attractions easily.
it's a walk up to your room, not terrible good for aerobics, the rooms are stylish...they are just small. If you are in a front room you may feel like you are in the pub across the way while still in your room. My suggestion lower the pricd and leave ear plugs at bedside (NY hotels do that)
I enjoyed my stay, even with these complaints.

Room Tip: If you are a light sleeper...take a room off the street.

Over priced, should not be called a 'Hotel'. Terrible breakfast, tiny rooms, awkward shower head, noisy, could even hear the person on the other end of the phone in the next room, don't get me started on the noise from outside! Ridiculous! Very disappointed. Only 3 channels on the tv, one which didn't have volume!
Good points are the location - if you plan on partying all night! Also the bedroom was clean. Comfortable bed, nice pillows.

Room Tip: book the twin room!

Major dissapointment. I travel to Galway regularly , usually staying in cheaper places, but decided to pay a bit more this time - what a mistake. No air conditioning for 2 nights meant we had to keep our window open which means a lot of noise! Very little sleep, no attempt at recompense, and in fact not even a follow up phone call from management as promised. Definitely not worth the money - lovely rooms, but they are even smaller than you would expect in Paris!

This boutique hotel has very compact rooms which are outfitted beautifully, but remember they are very small. you are right in the middle of the party centre of galway and you only have to step out the front door to find you are surrounded by hotels and action. The rooms are very clean and impressive for all of their smallness. Breakfast is strictly continental/limited. We did enjoy our stay however the noise from outside went on til 4amish and started again in the morning at 6am with the beer kegs being rolled outside the window. Staff were very friendly.

I would agree with most of the comments below including the critcal ones. This is a great location if you intention is a night out in Galways fab pub scene, but not great if you are looking for an early nights sleep. We were in town for a friends birthday and we were meters from the pub where the party was on. Which for us was fantastic as my wife who's expecting was able to sneek off home a little early while the rest of us continued to party. There is a lot of noise from the pubs around most with late night bars so do expect noise from them until early into the morning. The rooms are also very tight so again don't be surprised when you arrive, the beds are really comfy. Breakfast is basic, but how many hotels are now including any breakfast in the room price, we had all we wanted.
