“Helpful staff at Harbour Hotel”
Reviewed 17 July 2014

We checked into the Harbour Hotel at the last minute because we were unhappy at our current hotel, but only for one night as we were afraid of a repeat experience. We were welcomed by Claire at reception who was very friendly and efficient. We were given one of the smaller rooms, with two skylights, but it was very clean, comfortable and smoke odour free. We were very pleased and went down to enquire about booking additional nights, unfortunately they were completely full, July is Galway is a happening time! Claire offered to keep any room that came available through a cancellation but also advised that we book a room with their sister hotel - Glenlo Abbey, about 10 minutes drive, just in case they did not have any cancellations. Good advice. We went on our day tour and when we arrived back there were not any rooms available. Claire had made several calls throughout the day to many of the other hotels in Galway, as did Dave(could be Daniel, I am not sure, sorry), when we arrived but everything was booked so we had to take a cab out to Glenlo Abbey Hotel, which is beautiful but that is another review. Thank you for the excellent service provided by the staff at the Harbour Hotel.

Dear CRMilligan,

Thank you for your wonderful comments. I will pass them on to both Claire and Dan. We were thrilled to read that you would have liked to extend your stay with us, and it was unfortunate that this was not possible, however delighted to be able to accommodate you in our sister hotel. We hope you will return to stay with us sometime very soon. Galway is the place to be, summer or winter.
Please call to visit if you are ever in Galway again, even if it’s for a cup of tea!!!

Warm Regards
Galway Harbour

Our check in was smooth, car parking is around the back and is affordable at €5 for 24 hours. The rooms were comfortable and the beds comfortable. It is 5 minute walk to city centre and nice eateries. Good variety of food for breakfast and friendly staff. Check out was quick and we were assisted with our bags to the car.

Even though the check in was smooth, the overall impression was impersonal. The car Park was nice but the room was very small & Poky. Had to get the room changed at least for a better view, but that also was just about ok, though better than one overlooking some kind of workshop. The breakfast was good. Would not like to go back.

Room Tip: Choose rooms overlooking the harbour. Definitely not facing the rear side

Dear Rawi P,

We were disappointed to read from your review, that you felt your stay lacked the personnel touch. We strive at all times to give care and attention to each guest and apologise if you felt this was lacking.

We were also disheartened to hear that you felt the need to change rooms but trust that once relocated to the new room that it met your expectations and improved your overall experience with us.
We are a hotel located on the dockland area of the city and have limited options for viewing experience, however this should not impede on your room satisfaction and comfort and we do hope that you might reconsider staying with us in the future.

Warm Regards,
Galway Harbour

My fiance and I stayed here the night we got engaged. It was a pleasant stay and the staff were very accommodating, even with our last minute (day of) booking. The room was nice enough. I wouldn't say this hotel was spotlessly clean, but I didn't feel dirty there. It was nice to have the car park and a delicious breakfast in the morning. There was a wedding there that weekend, but it made our experience more fun, since we got to speak with many of the guests in the bar.

This hotel is very convenient and in easy walking distance from all the best places in Galway. Also, many tour companies pick up here, so another convenience of staying here. I would recommend staying here, knowing you'll be well taken care of.

We were very happy that we were able to check-in shortly after noon, but the rest of the stay was just average. We felt the room was showing signs age, could have been cleaner, and housekeeping did not refill Kleenex or leave wash clothes on our last of 3 nights. The front street is very noisy. When I tried calling the front desk for wash clothes, there was no answer and then the man working there when we checked out claimed I never tried calling as he was there all morning. We enjoyed Galway, but will stay elsewhere if we return.

Stayed here for a night last weekend, it was nice, the hotel has a car park beside it that only cost eight euro for the whole day. Inside the hotel is bright and modern however we didn't use the bar or restaurant facilities but we did notice seating outside, the room was nice, standard room really with tea coffee facilities provided very clean also, only bad point is there was no air conditioning and the room was so warm even with the windows open it became a little uncomfortable to sleep in, it's close to city centre and was a nice hotel overall

My husband and I stayed in Galway for two nights and we stayed at the harbour hotel for both nights. Our time in Galway happen to land on a weekend. As we walked in to check in we walked straight into a wedding cocktail hour that was in process. It was difficult to distinguish the check in desk through the crowd. Two of the three front desk staff could have been friendlier and more polite. They looked stressed out.

The hotel itself was nice. I liked the colors and decor. The rooms were clean however the carpets were a bit dirty. Parking is absolutely horrible. The hotel has very small lot in the back. If your unable to find parking your other option is to park at an off site parking lot nearby where parking is more expensive. Either way parking isn't free. The smoking area is right outside the back entrance where you come in from the parking lot and people don't budge to let you through. It was horrible. We could hear the music from the Friday and Saturday night weddings from our bedroom on the 3rd floor.

On the bright side not too far a walk from shops, pubs and dining. Dinner at the hotel was delicious. Pricy, but delicious. Breakfast was also great.

This is definitely a hotel which houses many events. There were about 4 Bachelorette parties going on as well. Perhaps it's less busy during the week.

Room Tip: The rooms in the back face the hotel parking. No great views.
